How to replace EGR Valve

Hey,

Bought my '99 Maxima from a dealership, 2 weeks later the CEL is on and the codes throw an EGR failed condition. Car still runs OK though. Stealership is saying $700 to fix. Is this something I can replace myself without great difficulty? Any instructions, preferably with pictures online somewhere?

Thanks!!

No warentee for two weeks after purchase ??

They usually just have to be cleaned. This involves taking off the upper intake manifold and cleaning all the pipes associated with the EGR Valve.

Search on here and you'll get many pics from other members.

but yeah i dont think you want to spend 700 dollars so..... clean clean clean! also check for any loose vaccums going to egr

Thanks for the links everyone, I truly appreciate it! I'm going to try cleaning everything first, then go from there. Do I just spray the carb cleaner inside the pipes to break up the carbon and let it dry? Any other products to use to clean everything?

Thanks again!

If it were that easy, there wouldn't be as many threads as there are about it! No sir. You don't get away from this one. 95% of the time, one or both of the EGR tubes are blocked and will require removal to clean the clog. It IS doable, but you must have time and patience and learn from the others that have already done it and unless you have $700 to burn, you should get dirty and do it yourself. The procedure is WELL documented.
