Steering wheel vibration gone...for now
edit:vibrations were from accelerating through the 1st 3 gears. not the above 60mph vibration.
hey guys,
i have had the infamous vibration in my steering wheel for a while now and its finally gone...for now. i have changed my driver side axle 3 times (2 from a no name parts store and the last one from autozone). i also changed my passenger axle yesterday. i noticed when the car was on the lift an in gear with wheels spinning, the outer shaft of the passenger axle was wobbly (bent a little). so since i have changed both sides, the vibration in the steering wheel is gone! hopefully it last forever now. i guess it would make sense that the wheel would vibrate when accelerating if the pass axle was bent a little.
at the same time, had a tranny fluid leak coming from the drivers axle and there was a little play on the axle. thought to myself the dreaded diff bearings were going. we changed the driver axle seal and turns out the axle was not pushed in all the way.i guess the axle C clip was not locked into place in the tranny. we pushed it in as much as we could and there is currently no leak from the axle. i also replace the neutral/reverse sensor.
the axle from autozone had a goldish metal ring that we figured helped seal the axle seal and axle itself to keep fluid from coming out. when i first put the axle in,the gold ring had about 2-3mm space between it and the entrance into tranny. now the gold ring is pushed into the tranny opening with the axle seal wrapped snug around it. the passenger axle also had the same gold ring that went snug into the tranny. the 2 axles i got from the independent shops didnt have the gold ring.
so far so good but i wil keep an eye on it for fluid leaks. and the axle play is gone. sorry for the ranting but i am just stoked that the vibration is gone now. drove the car last night for about 2 hours already. keeping my fingers crossed.

Vibration in steering wheel?
What year is your max? I have a 1995 with 196,000 miles and my steering wheel vibrates at 70mph. My tire pressure is 30psi, wheels have been balance by dealership (force balance machine) and tires have been aligned. Checked my wheel bearings, very little play when I rock the tires. I still can't get rid of this stupid vibration at 70mph. I have original struts and shocks, but they are not leaking yet......
Can you give me some advice?
Thank you in advance...

No idea, but you certainly are an *** now. lol at any rate. To answer the original question Your best bet is tire balance, alignment, and check the tires for any defects, bumps, maybe a giant rock stuck between the treats i had that happen to me once.

update
well its been about 3 days now and i have driven the car about 200 miles. the vibration is still gone and im very relieved, but there is a tiny bit of tranny fluid leakage going on, maybe about a dolar coin size. i believe its coming from the rear main seal. how long can i hold out for before fixing it? im thinking of waiting til my clutch goes so i dont have to pay for labor twice.

If i go above 120km/h then i feel a bit of vibration, is that normal?
