Starting issues

So last week, when I started my 5sp 95 max se, it runs, but its idling at 2k rpm, I'm like wth is this, so I turn it off and start again, it idles normally.

I thought nothing of it really, until today, when I kept starting my car, and it would start, but the rpm would immediately drop down and the engine would stall, kinda weird, so after the third time, I gassed it while starting it, and it leveled off at 1k rpm. The engine ran fine after that, and after getting to school and turning it off I turned it on again just to see what would happen, and it was fine...

I replaced the knock sensor last night, and I cleaned the throttle body (I followed the motorvate howto, so I'm gonna do it properly in a few days when the dealership gets the gaskets they ordered for me) a month ago or so.

TBH I have no idea why this happen, or if was just isolated. I'm gonna clean out the IACV in a few days, which I'm hoping might help, but I have no idea really.

Anyone know why that would happen?

Thanks

Anyone?

I've also noticed since the new knock sensor that my idle is precariously low, like 600-650 rpm when its fully warmed up.

Should I just try moving the black screw on the IACV to increase it?

That's the correct idle for a warmed engine, around 650. Changing the know sensor wouldn't have ccaused the idle change, so cleaning the tb must have helped bring the idle down to where it belongs. Probably the linkage is now cleaner as well, so it may not stick at 2k. I hope that's the end of your problem. Keep an eye on it, and if recurrs, look into other issues.

Just again today after school it did it, where I turned the engine on, and it ran and over a few seconds dropped down to almost stalling when I gassed it and it leveled off at 1k.

Got the gaskets though, so I'm gonna go clean the TB and IACV properly and see what happens.

So I'm cleaning the IACV right now, but the two halves of it won;t come apart -- the halves held together by two gold screws. Anyone have any suggestions, I tried tapping em wit ha hammer but it wouldn't come apart, seems odd to me. Anyone know?

I'm not throwing any codes btw, the knock sensor cleared up the rear o2 code at the same time.

edit: got it all toghether, she runs, gonna take her for a spin and see what happens.

edit edit: runs basically the same now, but with a higher/stronger idle. I guess it'll be a matter of seeing what happens over the next few days to see if it made a difference with the weird starting.

My 95 has had starting problems when i bought it. It would crank but wont turn over. I bought a new battery as a start to repair the problem as well as a tune-up. The day after i got my tune-up my car I made a few stops and it was fine. Until, i made one stop and was only gone for ten mins the car would not crank. The exterior/interior lights still worked when put on. I tried giving the battery a jump and seen a little bit of attempt to crank. Could this be an alternator problem? TIA

The car starts now, no problem, but I'm idling highish, It looks like the black screw on the IACV has been used before (partially stripped) so I think I might just lower the idle that way?
