2009 4th Gen Calendar
Hey guys, I realize summer is coming quick. It's starting to get nice outside and I'm getting spring fever and I'm sure many of you are too! I just wanted to let everyone know what the requirements for next years calendar are going to be for picture taking purposes this summer.
The calendar will be in an 17x11 in. format. Thats right, it's going to be in a WIDE format. Make sure that any picture you take has at least a 1/2" trim all the way around for picture bleed.
All picture submitted this year need to be at least 200 DPI. I would prefer 300 DPI. If your pictures come in anything less it will be tossed out. Thats a resolution size of 3400X2200 or 5100x3300 would be preferred. I understand that not everyone has an amazing camera so if you cant meet those standards submit them anyways and I'll let you know. They can be bigger then that, and you don't modify your picture to meet those resolutions. Send your pictures in AS IS and I can take care of all cropping. If your picture is blown up to meet the resolution size, it will get thrown out. Again, send it in AS IS and you will have a better chance.
Next Years calendar is going to be much higher quality, oh and only 4th gens. Here are some general guidelines when taking pictures. If your using a point and shoot digital camera use the lowest ISO that you can, this will provide the best picture and will reduce the amount of noise in the picture. Make sure your camera is using the highest image quality settings. If your using a digital SLR, good for you! You shouldn't have any problems at all. Use a tripod!
Submit all images to bezerk2112@gmail.com. You can submit as many pictures as you would like, just make sure your user name and actual name is in the email so I can contact you. All your file sizes should be huge. If you dont have a gmail account, get one! Hotmail accounts, as well as many others, knock down the image quality and file size to send it faster. Gmail wont do that and it can handle large file attachments.
Thanks guys and you can contact me if you have any questions. I'll bump this thread every couple of months just as a reminder.

Ya, all digital cameras are different, but your going to want at least a 5MP camera, and even then some cameras wont be able to cut it. The SD110 is only 3MP. If your going to school, many of them will check out camera equipment to students. Just an FYI.

Im going to need a few months...probably until June, until the leaves come out and my car will be finished. Ill send over my favorites tho. I dont think my Sony DSC-P93A will cut it, but my friend has a D40 that ill try and get some good high res shots with.
On a side note, how were sales on this years? How many total?

They did alright. I had to wait 40 days for the money to clear, and then they sent me a check which I have yet to receive. Didn't sell as many as I wanted, some of the people in it didn't even order one, but thats ok. Going to order one for myself still and donate the rest to the org. Thanks for asking! Thats what I get for waiting until the middle of January. This years is going to be a smash hit! Avalible by mid october, or early november.

^^^ I'm not going to let you know. If you want your car in the calendar just submit some pictures. I'll review them after I get them. You can submit as many as you would like. You have all summer. The more you submit, the better your chances of making it into the calendar.
The problem is that the quality of the pictures may not be what is needed, so they get rejected. In the case of the picture above, I would have to crop the picture landscape, reducing the image quality. Something like the picture in your sig would work better.

Lighting is key people. Having the sun in the corner of the picture or a parking lot light glaring in the pic is not good... it's a major distraction and takes away from the quality of the picture.
The cars in the 2007 calendar are great, but IMO either the lighting is off in some pics, the car is too far away in the distance, car is facing the wrong direction .... or something else is wrong. Only a handful of pics in that calendar are good. I know you were under the gun and started the calendar late Bezerk, so no offense to you as you did the best you could with the pictures you were given, I'm just letting others know what I observed...
IMO, too many people don't know how to take pics or know the formula for a good picture. I myself am no expert, but I try to follow the guidelines in this thread....

Now go out and take some great pictures

The deadline will be October 31, 2008. That way they can be avalible mid November, and people can get them before Christmas.
Couldn't agree more. Last time I didnt have a lot to work with. It was hard becasue of low quality pictures, bad angles, bla bla bla. I had to go with the best of what was given. I only got a handful off good pics like The Wizard said. This time it will be a lot harder to get in, which is why I'm accepting pictures all summer long. If you think you have a good picture, send it to me and I'll let you know, give some pointers and such if needed with angles and lighting, but just becasue I say it's good dosn't mean it's in the calendar. Trust me, this calendar is going to be something worth getting.

I probably won't be submitting any pictures, as I am a crappy photographer and don't have all the right equipment to get the angles/lighting correct
But I sure can't wait to see this calendar when it's finished

Exactly! Everyone is capable of taking great pictures, it's just knowing how is the issue.

And just a FYI, that picture wouldn't make it in. The picture of the car is alright, but the surroundings of the car are overexposed.
