1000 rpm when the gear is "N" or "P"???

Hi.

My 96' I30 has auto tranny. I realize that the idle of my I30 is so high which is 1000 rpm at "N" or "P" and 650-700 rpm at "D". I couldn't find any vacuum leak. I heard that the normal idle should be 700-750 rpm when the gear is "N". How to adjust the rpm as normal speed?

Thanks.

Yes, it is at fully warmed up. When the engine is started, rpm is about 1500 then back to 1000 rpm.

Thats pretty normal. At fully warmed up my RPMs in neutral will sit right around 900 and in drive and reverse they sit at 650.

Do you have an codes? I'm also guessing vacuum leak. But I had this symptom when the TPS went bad.

I don't have any code. I adusted the rpm from 1000 to 750 by adjusting bolt on the throttle body. There is a grey plastic nut.

It's normal don't worry about the high RPMs. If there are no CELs no need to worry.

The default throttle body idle should be set to 600-650 with the TPS disconnected.

Start the car and warm it up completely, drive around for 10 minutes.
Turn the car off, disconnect the TPS.
Restart
Adjust the throttle body set screw (NOT THE IACV) to obtain an idle speed of around 600-650, all accessories off, headlights off, car in park or neutral.
Turn off the car and reconnect the TPS.
Restart and check idle speed. It should be around 750, if it's not adjust the idle speed at the IACV, do not touch the throttle body setting.

what (Where) is the throttle body set screw (NOT THE IACV)? I think the grey color screw, which I turned to adjust idle, is on the IACV. Now 750 rpm when "netural" or "Parking" and 600 rpm at the "Driving"

Thanks.

I've noticed that sitting at a red light, for example, if I shift from D into N the revs go up slightly.

Where in NJ are you? Do you want to adjust the idle on my 96?
