Can an axle be bad w/o a torn boot?

I took my car to get the front end checked for vibration under acceleration and they determined it was the left axle. However both boots are good. What else could have gone wrong?

Keep in mind I am lowered about 2.5" or more on coilovers and the problems started immediately after I lowered the front end from about 1.5" to 2.5" below stock.

My mounts are good, I am pulling no codes, no backfiring (though I may get a tune up eventually)... axles seem like the most logical choice...

Yes your Half Shaft can be bad even though the boots are not torn! If the boots are torn they just wear that much faster. But seeing as you say it definitly happened after you dropped your car...and you say it is most noticable under acceleration...My first guess would be either your hub assembly or wheel bearing. I own a 05 3.5 Altima that I dropped and I had the same problem. I changed the bearing and 4 months later it chewed through that bearing agian...The hub was bad! Replaced it all as one unit and now smooth as glass...GOOD LUCK

Yes, a CV can go bad without the boot leaking out the grease first.

Lowered suspensions frequently cause early CV failure.

It's definitely axle related now, I'm sure of it. Clicking in turns

Should I do both axles now? And how can I avoid having to change axles every 6 months without raising my car?

yes, any drop will affect your cv joints eventually, the lower you go the faster it will get there

I had one completely break on my '95, but the boot looked perfect. When you replace the axleshaft, get one with a lifetime warranty.
