intake thought
On the Injen intake, the filter goes down and sits in front of the radiator. But couldn't the intake veer off to the right where that extra stock intake box used to be on my car. Would this be a cai or is there no airflow there?? I wouldn't mind drilling holes right there to let air flow in but I don't know how this would affect the chassis. Any thoughts?

those intakes are already being made. you can buy a Bomz one for about $50 shipped on ebay. I had one, got tired of the sound and torque loss, modded the 5th gen intake to fit my car and will never look back.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BOMZ-...spagenameZWDVW
Ive had all sorts of intakes, stock, HAI, CAI... all are basically the same. They just look different under the hood and sound different outside. They claim to shift power a bit in the power band while taking from the other end of the power band, but nothing I could notice on a butt-dyno. There isnt any massive performance loss or gain... period.
That said there is a good write-up in the sticky explaining all sorts of intakes...
But I would not use injen, imo its known as the worst intake available for the max. Go with a e-bay CAI like the one crime posted. Heres something from the stickies:

Be aware that many models of CAI require that you cut a 3” hole in the inner fender well. This is nothing that will be seen from the outside, and nothing that affects structural integrity, but if you lack the tools or the guts to cut a 3” hole in the inner fenderwell, then the traditional CAI is not for you.
i have worked with short ram and cai intakes on my car, both were big difference over stock and with short ram i noticed power gains in low end and loss in high, vise versa for cai. i have place racing which i all over ebay and is true cai, get it and you won't go wrong with it.
short ram to cai is all depends on the person preference just like turbo vs superchargers. power is not big difference in short ram to cai but it all depends what your going for.
you can get either for less than 40 shipped on ebay.
thats not true and thats why you are a newb.

ram is stuck under the hood next to the motor so it tends to take on more heat. thats why i say cold air and not ram. but your right its all up to the persons preference and what they wanna do

for short ram you can create a custom aluminum heat sheild FTW, will reduce heat from the engine alot.
yes it sucks more heat but it gets to the engine alot faster than air which is good for low end torque and power. at high end it's not. cai takes longer to get to the engine which you lose power and torque at low end but at high rpm it's all there

i ran short ram and seeing the difference between short ram and cai. i dont like the idea of hot air in my engine, that's why im running cai, but with short ram i did notice faster pick up in of the line and thats what im saying that of the line your engine reacts faster with short ram while with my cai it didnt react as fast but i felt little gains in higher rpms.

That’s not what I promote, but that is what I prefer to do, due to the sound.Read this: (last line, followed by pics in 2nd link) http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...95&postcount=8

guys. wat the helll is with all the arguing...the engine does suck in hot air if u put on the e bay intake. i had one...that it pulls better, its so small gains, that you don't even notice it. or you are just paranoid...it doesn't really help except it makes a lot more noise.
what do you guys think about this?
bolting a cone filter up the the MAF in a kind of short ram setup and then routing a tube from the end of it (leaving the side's exposed) through to the wheel well for cold air. Would this do any good?
let me know if my ignorance is showing

i guess the debate is between short ram and cold air intakes. what about if i had a short ram air intake going right behind my battery, made a sealed box, and then cut a hole in my hood to give fresh cold air with the shortest intake possible. would that work well? any opinions will be helpfull

why? because hood scoops are rice unless you have an intercooloer where the hood scoop is, such as the subbies. but hey more power to you, if you wanna be like teh brawney or whatever his name is.
i'm not talking about a huge scoop. maybe a section cut out and pressed down. i'm not worried about what it will look like. it just seems like an efficient way to get cold air to your engine the fastest. am i wrong?
Dude, it's a Maxima. Get real. If your half-a**ed attempt at a hood scoop actually worked with your half-a**ed attempt at a non-stock intake, you'd gain MAYBE 1 WHP from it at like 60+ MPH on the highway. Is that worth it for your car to look like a piece of crap?
