Preference with tires

I have upgraded from my stock 15's to some 18's of the g35 as many of us have done. I now need to replace the rubber on the wheels and I am having a hard time deciding on what to go with and how wide i should go. These rims are 8" wide so they can carr 225 - 245 no problem. Are there any advantage with going wider besides more weight. I live in canada and rubber is stupid expensive up here so ill need to ship it up.

I was looking at the nexen n3000 or the nankang NSII, any thoughts on these?

First off weight is not one of the advantages. and advantage to wider is a ton more grip around corrners. I had 205 on my 15s,I could take a clover leaf corner at 40mph tops and when I got my 5.5gen wheels I put 235 on them and now I can take clover leafs at 55-60mph hows that for an improvement.

Stock suspention with 136k on them.

Wider tires also means increased rolling resistance, which negatively affects your MPG.

I was quoted 335$ per tire plus tax and recycling fee. I am a student and don't feel like dropping 1500$ on rubber for a 11 year old car FTW.

Not bad at all actually. Had them on my MR2 just after they came out and they were pretty damn good for the price. Seemed to wear out kinda quick though, but I'm sure my car is due for an alignment, and I only seem get like 10k miles out of my rear tires on that car anyways lol. Fronts still have pretty good tread though.

look into the falken ziex 452. Around 190/tire. 70,000km tread life. Classified as an m/s tire too.

I only use mine in the summer and on a 18X8 inch rim you should go with 245. I have a 225 on there right now and the tire is somewhat stretched. Makes the rim protector useless.

here's the linky and they (this retailer) are in canada so no major importing fees.
good luck

Those are decent.

I'm going with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's in 225/45/17 for my 17" rims when I get them. They are around $170/tire.

I'm currently on stock SE rims with Goodyear Assurance TripleTred (215/55/16). These tires are VERY nice for all season tires. Before them I had Kumho Ecsta ECT or something like that.

The ecsta spt's are great. My car has a fresh set on now, 225/45/18 I believe. Though I do hear they wear quick...which in may case, they will wear very quick. Those gosh darn superchargers. :P

Can't believe I just said gosh darn...

Yokohama Avid V4s should be able to get a set for under $500 out the door. Great tire!

yes im actually going through this right now...

i got some Motegi SP 10 racing wheels and in order for them to fit on the back, i had to pry that brass dome off.

well i come to find out that the brass dome serves a very important purpose - to keep dust and debris from the road OUT of the wheel bearings, which are exposed on the end of the axle (you can see them if you look in there)

my friend says i will end up replacing wheel bearings every 6 months if i continue to drive with it off.

why not on the front you may ask?

the front axle has a different structure, so the wheel bearings arent exposed.

he suggested either spacers to compensate, or stick to nissan OEM wheels.

its not offset is it? its the size of the bore in the center, and then a ring to compensate correctly.....

Stay away from Nankangs, they suck. I had some NS-1 sports and there were of very poor quality and also very poor treadlife. Right now I'm running Toyo Proxes TPT P225/55R17's. Toyo no longer makes them, but I found them online for like 130 each. Before that I have had the same tires on my sawblades in 15", I have never loved any tire as much as I love the Toyo's. The treadlife was great and the road noise is not bad. I truly learned that you get what you pay for and if you think about it, tires are not the place to skimp out on quality. I'd rather pay a little more and be a little safer.

you should run hubcentric rings just for extra security when running aftermarket rims anyway. What you mentioned was to run a spacer which pushes the actual wheel away from the rotor hat and will put further stresses on your cv joints. Also, if you use too big of a spacer, some of the tire will poke out past the fender and throw road debris onto the car. One other thing, you need to have a minimum of 9 (i beileve) rotations of the lugnuts to secure your rims on properly.

Maybe I misunderstood your orginal post.

I sell Nexen's like they are going out of style, and will be grabbing a set of the N3000's very soon. For a budget tire, they are pretty good!

Nankang isn't one of my favorite, but I'm biased.

i used nexen n3000 on my 17"s with my saturn. they were a decent tire. handled well in corners. as for other tires i would look at Toyo. i'm running their TPT's on my stock 16"s and don't have any complaints..

where do you live?

if you need a set of winter tires than I would say just buy some nexens or another inexpensive brand for the summer.
If you are riding rims all year long than get a nice set of tires, its going to be worth it.
