Changing Trans Pan gasket

Hi,
I searched the forums and couldn't find an answer. I'm changing a leaking trans pan gasket tonight and have the gasket. It's rubber and I'm not sure if I should use gasket sealant w/ a rubber gasket or not?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

JEC

I tried the search function and found some threads about trans, but nothing specific about gasket sealant. I would guess no mention means no prob. Found this thread with a bunch of pics etc. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....mission+gasket

Just search in Fluids forum for more info.

OK, thanks for your help. I'll leave out the sealant (except to keep it aligned when I'm attaching the pan).

Again, thanks,

Jeff

I didn't use any sealant when I replaced mine, many years back, no leaks yet...

Same here, though I usually put a small bead of RTV around the corners, both above and underneath the gasket. Helps it stay in place, and ensures a seal around the corner (same principle as the RTV on the sharp corner on the valve cover gasket, just a much more gradual turn).
