what can it be?

okay i looked around i dk if its the starter battery, or alternator, i was driving to work today, and there was open power cable for the amp previous owner(duma$$) left it open, so i was driving all of a sudden theres smoke everywhere im like shoot i figure out where it s comin from its my trunk pop the trunk open take my spare tire out i see a wire fryin sparkin and started to catch on fire, i know i was not suppose to throw water on it but it was near the gas tank didn't want the car to blow up i threw water , electric taped the wires up and the car wouldn't start got a jump car started, and then got home tried starting it wouldn't start got a jump started up after a few cranks, i disconnected the power wire from the battery, turned the car off and tried starting it wouldn't start but i put the key on on the lights work and everything, but wouldn't start, so my question is what can it be only starts by jumping?

Have you made sure your battery posts/connections are nice and clean and tight. This may not fix your problem but it takes probably 15 mins work and is worth a try. Take off the negative and positive leads off the battery and clean the posts and connectors with baking soda and water and a wire brush. After cleaning reconnect them up good and tight. If your battery teminals/connectors are corroded a jump will usually start your car.

I know you removed the power lead but you need to make sure both negative and positive connections are clean.

replace the battery..

That exposed power wire probably shorted the battery out..

Car always started just fine until the fire? Because this does not sound like something that should be cause by your little adventure. Kind of long shot but check Fuse #60, under the dash it's for the alernator make sure it's not blown.

I thought about that too. It's the huge fuse that's under the hood next to the battery.

Good point about the fusible link, worth checking. It would be the one identified as "a" fusible link under the hood. If that link is burned out your sunroof, power seats, radiio, fog lamps, and horn, cruise control, would not work. Check all fuses in the underhood fuse box.

If that fusible link is blow it would prevent your battery from being charged. If your battery is 5-6 years old and you plan to keep the car for a while it's not such a bad thing if you change it regardless.

Have you tried jump starting? If it doesn't jump then it's probably either your battery and/or your fuse.

He stated he jump started the car multiple times...

Anyways, you can jump start the car with the fusible link blown and you should be able to start the car with the fusible link blown as well. So I think your battery is smoked. Should check the fusible link too because it's possibly dead. Expensive fuse, it's like $13 at the dealer for the 140A.

The reason people mentioned your thread title sucking is because if you post a decent thread title that actually gives some indication of what your problem is, you will get more people viewing your post rather than just some generic thread title. Something to think about in the future.

Fusible link "a" and fuse 60 are in the same box under the hood, they should both be checked. Fusible link "a" is in the middle of the box. I think there is a cover on the box you need to remove it.

I don't know what # the fusible link is, but it's the large one in the center of the main underhood fuse box. It's 140 amps (usually, unless someone replaced it with a 120 or a 70, which also are available from nissan) and it says "BAT" or Battery on it. it's not hard to find...

If your sunroof, power seats, horn or fog lamps work then the fusible link is not blown and you do not need to find it.
