High mileage start modding or not?
I just bought a 98 gxe with 162,000 mile on it I was wondering if it is still worth it to start modding it. This is a list in order of what I want to do within the next year.
1. Exaust Y pipe and cat-back
2. Suspension (lowering)
3. Body Kit
3.5. Body work ( dings and repaint )
4. Carbon fiber Hood and trunk lid
5. Leather interior swap
Also I do not know what octane the previous owner used but I use 93 as with my other 97 se I wish I still had. but anyways, is it still worth it to spend the extra money on the gas.
thanks in advance.

sure, why not? mine has 180k and i'm ready to do a mevi and nwp spacers. me personally, i would make sure all of the maintenance stuff is done first and then start modding. i also would not put alot of extra money into the body/paint.

Some of these people on here are saying their maximas are running through 300k. So, with that in mind, I would say its a safe bet; so long as you plan on keeping your car for a long time. However, what you put in your car does not return the same value or any at all (more times than not) for resale esp. if you sell it to a dealer.

Get everything it "needs" taken care of first. Get it in top mechanical condition and then do what you will.

Nah man, You dont know how the last owner or owners have kept up with it. I say do the maintenance on it first which at your mileage should be pretty extensive and costly and drive it for a while after that and see how the car runs. Perhaps check compression also see if its burnin oil etc.
*I hope its not auto btw.

No it is 5 Spd. I wouldn't drive anything but if a car has any kind of speed.
I have been driving it for a couple of months. it drives great. I did put new spark plugs in and a new fuel filter I want to get the tranmission checked for anything wrong but around here Mass. they charge 500 just to take it out and if nothings wrong then it wouldn't be worth it.
I want to mod it because 3 years ago I got rid of my 97 SE which I did all of the modding to and it started to have major problems with the transmission which I didn't want to deal with so I traded it in for a 05 Altima. Now I have this car which I got because I missed the MAX.

Mines has 164,xxx and still modding now. lol Starting modding at around 115k.
Of course next mod will be another engine soon.
But as long as you take care of your car with all proper maintenance (i.e. drop will perform best with changing of control arms, tie rods, sway links and good alignment, etc.) then mods won't be a problem.
