Dangers from Underdrive Pulley- Fact or Fiction????

Anyone who may have the technical knowledge to answer or comment, please comment on this article by Steve Dinan. Sounds like a pretty compelling argument to me...??? Anyone have any idea???

not this again

One question......does Steve Dinan mod Nissans????

didn't think so.

some people have had these pullys on for over 2 years with NO PROBLEMS...actually no one has EVER had a problem on a maxima with a UDP. the UR UDP is actually BETTER balanced than the stock pully and the stock pully is NOT A HARMONIC DAMPENER.

I recall reading our engines are internally balanced. I also recall reading our engines do not require a harmonic balancer. It seems to me a light aluminum pulley presents less inertia than the stock steel pulley, thereby creating a smaller torsional load in the crank under acceleration/deceleration. As advertised.

Either the information *is* applicable to the BMW engine, or Dinan is providing a long-winded excuse for not providing a UDP to BMW owners. In any case, the Dinan article seems to speak to BMW owners only.

ARGH Search is your friend, really!!!!

NISSAN ENGINES DO NOT REQUIRE HARMONIC BALANCERS. They are INTERNALLY BALANCED. The Unorthodox Racing UDP (SS) has NO NEGATIVE EFFECTS on your car if you use the correct belts and tension.

Harmonic Damper

If there is no harmonic damper, then why would Nissan build some sort of rubber compound into the stock pulley??

Re: Harmonic Damper

There was some big time drama on the e46 board and this article a while back. Go to my other site, www.e46fanatics.com and do a search if you really want to try and find it. It may have been before the new server though. I can't remember. This is OT.

That article was written for BMW's. Their situation is probably different.
