no start

Ok, I'm getting really fed up. I've replaced the starter, have a red top optima battery, replaced the crank sensor (pos), run ground wires everywhere and my damn car won't start. Tranny bolts are tight.

I took out the three front spark plugs and all 3 get spark. They were dripping with gas when I removed them. I did a comp. test and all 3 were low (70psi), but I put oil in each of the holes and got around 200psi. I've probably dumped half a tank worth of fuel into the cylinders trying to get this thing to start which probably washed all the oil off the cylinder walls. I've run down my battery three times now trying to get this to start.

The thing doesn't even cough or sputter. Even if the rear three cylinders had low comp. due to excessive fuel washing away the oil, it'd still start with three good cylinders, or at least sputter, right?

It was running perfect last time I parked it.

Oh, and there's codes.
WTF? What am I missing?

I actually remember this happening quite alot in 95-96 (was a tech at a nissan dealer) and nissans answer was to hold the gas pedal to the floor and start it then be prepared for a great smoke show. I forget what caused it but for some reason all of the fuel in the rails drained into the engine washing all of the oil away and leaving you with low compression and a severely flooded engine. As soon as you get it running smooth you have to immediately change the oil as it is now severely diluted. We never got an answer as to what failed and why and many cars that came in (on the hook) with this problem never had a problem again.

I checked again, and there's no codes. Stupid wireless keyboard-Looks like I caused some confusion earlier. There was never any codes.

It wouldn't be cranking over and giving spark if it were the ignition switch.

I just poured 30wt oil in all the cylinders and then tried to start it, and again had no success.

Did you try what I said? Might be even harder now that you have oil in all of the cylinders. Hold it to the floor and crank it until it starts, warm it up and then change the oil.

Yes, I've floored it many times, for 30 seconds at a time.

Check your fuel pressure. It's possible you're dumping way too much gas in the engine on crank and immediately flooding it.

I know it was a PITA to get cars with this problem started when they came in and now that you have added oil to the equation you may have fouled the plugs. You could clean the plugs (especially up inside around the insulator), crank the engine over with the plugs out to blow out as much crap as possible, and maybe try a little (yikes) ether (I hate using it but desperate times). the only other logical explanation is that the spark is happening at the wrong time (doubtful as you would have backfiring). Is it at or 5spd? If its a stick you could bump start it in 2nd gear which would get the engine rpm higher than that which the starter can produce.

Well, I got the battery on the charger right now, so I'll charge it for a couple of hours and then try starting it with starter fluid, with the fuel pump fuse out.

Hey, that too much fuel thing at start up reminded me of the same kind of problems on the early 90s rx-7s.the procedure that we figuerd out was as follows:
1-pull plugs and clean them
2- clamp off the fuel line (not the return line)
3- disable the coil packs (ignitoion fuse maybe???)
4- crank the engine with the plugs still out. be carefull because of fuel
spraying out of the spark plug holes.we cranked it over for a good 15 or 20 seconds to get all of the fuel out of the cyl.
5- replace plugs and enable the ign system again.
6- this part helps if you have some on to help you...crank the car like you are stating it but with the fuel line still clamped off, after it turns over a few times release the clamp while still cranking.

this worked every time on the rx-7 problem which is the same symptoms that I was reading above . I never experinced it on a nissan though.

good luck

oh yeh, did you check the timming???

I would personally leave the fuel pump fuse in. When it starts it will run until the excess gas burns off and then run very lean until it stalls. lean equals hot and there is basically no lubrication in the cylinders at this point. Just my opinion but once it starts you need to keep it running as the convertor will be full of fuel and smoke like hell until cleared out.

Well, I got it started by letting it roll down a hill. Lol, it smoked like a MF for 5 minutes, got a lot of dirty looks from people.

Won't rev over 2000rpm though, so that pretty much screams the MAF sensor being the problem.
