I fixed this problem on my old 97 (I have a 99 now) by unplugging the computer for the cruise under the steering wheel and unplugging the pump thing on the firewall and then plugging them back in. I fix PC's for a living so that's always the first thing you do with hardware problems...reseat the part. Try that.

Good luck, this problem is a PITA sometimes.

I have seen this on my old 96 and my sisters 99. It does effect the cruise control function. but it is a annoying flash.I removed the battery cable and it never worked. I never tried to disconnect the cruise computer but it might work.Post back if it does.

If that doesn't work, the FSM has a big trouble-shooting section for the cruise control (ASCD), my problem was my steering switch was broken. Gettin a new one now!

I have a spare switch I can sell you for $10 + shipping if you ever wanna try that. I'm pretty sure it works because replacing it didn't fix my problem...so my switch was most likely always good to begin with.

This is a VERY common problem on 4th gen Maxima's.

Good luck!
