When my Maxima goes to the Great Car Lot in the Sky

Hello all:

It's been a long time since I've posted here and am always glad to be back amongst fellow Maxima lovers.

Now on to my question:

My 1997 Maxima SE has over 250,000 miles on it and is still running like an absolute dream day in and day out. It has seen me through many girlfriends as well as taking me to both coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, Canada, and Mexico.

I know someday it will eventually give up the ghost after years of faithful service and as sentimental as it may sound, I want to give it a more proper and honorable end than just having it towed off to some junkyard or used car lot.

As ridiculous as it may sound, does anyone know of a good way to send off my car to the great car lot in the sky? I saw an ad for Subaru talking about Subaru heaven and I always wondered if such places existed where you could take your car that it could rust in peace rather than ending up in a 3x3x3 hunk of scrap metal in a salvage yard.

Again, I know it probably sounds silly and sentimental but when you have a car that has been more faithful to you than most people, parting is never easy when your car feels like a member of your family.

Thanks again to all who respond!

- Dan

if its so faithful and still running like a dream why get rid of it? when it finally dies tho, part it out, that way you know other orgers who love their cars will enjoy your car. I get a good feeling knowing that my first maxima is now enjoyed by people in just about every state and even in canada.

burn it

or beat the hell out of it with bats and things, invite people around who can pay to beat it up

then push it down a cliff

or use the seats as actual lounge and sofa bits inside, rip the engine out and polish it up then put a glass top on it and make a coffee table, use the stereo as a stereo inside your shed or similar (mounted in the walls) use the lights as exterior house lights, build a fence to your property out of the doors and various panels

etc etc, try and spread it out around the house so you never forget it

this whole topic is priceless... haha frame it... lol

Man, I have thought of stuff like this too, I want to sell my car to someone that will take care of her, as much or even better then me... OR let it rust in piece... haha

but unfortunately, as much as they are, our babies, no one will let them just rust in piece, They all have value and no one will just let it sit in there yard or as u call it "car heaven" to just rot.

Honestly...I wish, I could just take a shrink ray and put it on my keychain.... haha that would be awesome... but then...WTF... Why is ITs leaking!?!?! "dude, its cause you didn't empty out the fluids".. well HOW IM I GONNA DO THAT? I don't have a ant-sized ratchet. lolz

I feel you, my friend......

My Max kind of talked to me before it caught on fire a couple days ago. I really believe cars have lives, though I didn't know what a alternator was.

If you have a backyard, drain the gas, leave it there, why buy all those decorations for home when you have the best, especially the most sentimental one. From time to time, you could go visit, go sit in it, go through the memories that youve had in it.

It could help you get more......... girl friends........

this thread scares me a lot.

It's a car guys. I love my car as much as the next guy, and have put a lot of hard work into it, but it's still just that...a device to get you from point A to point B.

Some of you guys might want to delete your posts before important people see them and laugh at you.

Given-its probably better not to get too attached to a car since anything can happen, but some of us just have a deeper appreciation for our Maximas than others. I've only had mine 4 years, but I dont ever plan on letting it go. And why should anyone delete their posts? This is an enthusiast forum.

That last part was a joke.

I vote for parking it permanently in the front yard so you can see it everyday when you come home.

Watch out for the HOA though, those people are @ssholes

I dunno how serious the OP is, but I thought about this too, as I've been thinking of getting another car for some time. I tried parting out in the for-sale forum and vultures swooped in within minutes lowballing. But seriously, the car is worth more parted out, than as a whole. It just takes time/effort to part it.
For my previous cars, I donated one, engine swapped another and let my mechanic sell it and he keeps a %, and another I let my mechanic fix the tranny and sell for a % commission.

I would just park it somewhere and throw a cover on it where no one will bother you for it being parked there

I feel ya brother. Now this is going to sound stupid but before I got i30 I had a 97 Taurus . It had soo many problems but I loved that car and after I got the infiniti we didnt have space for the it and had to donate @ 166....k miles with a bad tranny. Anyway when the tow truck took it away tears were coming out of me. Yeah so I have a habit of getting too close to cars and I dont know if I can even ever sell the infiniti because I love this car even more.
