Stock SE rims with S-Tech springs?

Can I do this without getting my wheel like stuck or hit my fender while turning or hitting a bump? lol

I know it will look kinda crapp with this setup but I am gonna get rims Eventually with low PF tires but for now, I saw a couple good deals for S-Techs for a good price and I mine as well snag them and slap them on.

So does anyone know if that 2" drop will give me a issue with Stock SE rims and stock sized tires? Or if I have an issue, Should I just stay with getting H-techs instead?

Thanks...

and I was gonna go to the suspension forum, but I figure I ask here first and no one is on that forum much anyway...

+1 to what he said.

I had s-techs on stock SE rims/tires. No issues at all. They dont look that bad like your saying it will... I liked it but got a good deal on rims so I bought rims.

agreed, you will have no issues, but i hope you did not put the s techs on stock struts. invest money into some illuminas or agx

They actually look pretty good with the stock tire size. I can't vouch for them having a good ride or long strut life, btu they look good.

Make sure that your struts have a good warranty that covers the drop of S-Techs.

I recommend H-Techs on the 4th gen, followed by Eibachs. Konis are top for struts, followed by followed by Illuminas.

Thanks guys, I was gonna use the stock struts if that is ok, I plan on probably having the car for about another year. (going on a 2 years this aug) and I don't want to spend $500 for new struts if mine are fine(rather put that into a new clutch), I would do it, but I just don't have the money. I know the stock struts probably will not last as long, but its just too much for me to spend when living on ur own.

All I am doing next is this and rims and a louder muffler and I am pretty much done. I was gonna do a lipkit too but I just can't. :-(

You think you're saving money but in the long run you're not. I don't think your stock struts will last more than 3 months on a S-Tech drop.I could be wrong though. So mind as well replace all 4 struts while you're at it. I'm replacing all 4 struts with Tokico Illuminas, Tein H-Tech's and other suspension parts this weekend.

Good luck!!!

I recommend H-Techs for stock struts.

I am not saying that it does not look good, but even on NEW stock struts, you are looking at about 3 months of fair performance before one (or more) leaks or blows. With used/old stock struts, they could die almost immedately.

I'll vouch for that..I went with H-tech with my old/used stock struts..the stock struts blew the next day!!. So imagine what would've happened with S-tech. Pay one time..cry one time. You cheap out..you'll be crying all the time..lol

I have to agree that if your going to lower your car and inch you need new struts (unless your struts are like less than 3months old). it may look nice with the drop sitting still. but when your going around a turn at 60 and it raining and you hit something as small as a manhole cover or sewer grate and the whole car bounces up and down uncontrollably youll regret it. I bought my max with lowered springs and stock struts (days after it was done) and within 2 weeks all the struts were blown and the car drove like a roller-coaster. in my opinion its a waste of money and you could hurt yourself or someone else. a cars suspension is not a joke and should not be taken lightly for the sake of good looks. if money is an problem than go with a moderate drop and gyr2's or hp's. do yourself a favor and do things right or don't do them at all.

if ur gonna mess with the suspension, do it right the first time around.
im running s-techs on KYB AGX and i dont see how the stock struts will last u 3 months on stechs.
youre going to run into blown struts which obviously will give a crappy ride which will make you unhappy.

if your gunna use the stock struts, you might as well save more money and just cut the springs

S-Techs on factory SE 5 spokes...

The drop is kinda low but i will ride like **** with old struts. some people say it still rides bad with aftermarket struts but with illuminas and konis IMO i will be good for you.

Why the recommendation of h-techs over eibachs? Have you experienced both? Just curious because I always debated over which to get...eventually got the eibachs and was nothing but pleased!

I have installed and driven both, though I only owned H-Techs.

Overall, including ride/comfort, looks, and handling, I like the H-Techs- but I do a lot of driving, so comfort matters.

The H-Techs are more comfortable than Eibachs, but the Eibachs handle better. Unless they are side-by-side, both look equally good. Side-by-side, Eibachs have a slight edge.

Gotcha...

Do you think the mild drop of the eibachs and h-techs are anywhere close to as hard on struts as the s-techs?

H-Techs are the least hard on struts, but I still would not run them with 9-year-old stock struts.

i am testing your theory right now. i installed ksports( which have a similar drop to stechs) on the stock struts. my rears blew in 1 day because the nuts were rusted on and i had to use vice grips on the piston to get the nut off so i pretty much expected them to go quick. i have illuminas for the rear. i will update when the front blow. i am an ase certified tech so swapping struts and springs is a 10 minute job for me. i cant see the front struts going more than a few months since the have 9 years of use and 133000 miles on them.

I thought that KSports were full coilovers, not sleeves.

He's probably referring to K Sport Springs.

lol... anyone in the boston middlesex area willing to stop by for a bit so i can see ur and ride in ur maxes setup? lol... but really... my main concern is i want a nice drop, get better handling and stop the fricking dip... i HATE it... the car has been dipping a lot more on stops and launches and it makes me look retarded. Maybe my struts are starting to go because i dont remember the car dipping this much... no gas leaks wheb i checked last time...

i am actually gonna bleed my brakes hopfully this week... so i will inspect them then, and let you guys know... thanks for all the input... is there any other hardware i shoud get too? mounts, pellows, cam adjusters? do i need those?

While upgrading my suspension I bought a bunch of OEM parts. After taking all the struts apart I noticed most of the parts did not require replacement.I recommend just replacing the front strut bearings and dust boots. The rear just replace the bushings if they're not included with the struts/shocks you buy and dust boots. They were included with my Tokico Illuminas. Get in touch with Dave B on the forum he'll give you a good price and great service too. I bought my OEM parts from him.I will post pics of my drop soon. I love the way it looks.
