Weird rear caliper problem
Weird rear caliper problem
This is one I've never heard before:
I installed a rebuilt right/rear caliper. Got it from Napa.
But the ratcheting cable arm isn't working right. It stays turned to the front of the car. The cable won't even stay hooked onto the arm.
If I remove the caliper, squeeze/turn the piston, and work the cable arm it will click some. When I turn the piston it moves in and out. But then I put the caliper back on the rotor/pads and the cable arm stays cranked all the way toward the front, so that the parking cable can't even put tension on it. I tried prying it open but it's stubborn.
Anyone know what's going wrong?

I figured it out, I think.
I removed the caliper again and pressed the piston. This again allowed the cable arm to uncrank completely and stay open. Then I unhooked the first bracket of the parking brake cable and put the assembly back together - I think before the cable didn't have enough compliance that I could hook the cable without moving the arm from the uncranked position.
I'm not sure what exactly happened the first time but it's working now.
