What tool is needed to change rear brake pads on a 98..

I was paging through my Haynes manual earlier because after I had changed my front pads back to Ceramics to eliminate brake noise.. I am still getting some squeak/squeal so I think Im going to change out the rear brakes now too. The pad material looks pretty thin, less then half a inch.

Hayne's manual speaks of a tool that is special for the job; can anyone let me know what I might need? Rotors were resurfaced about 6K miles ago

you'll need a tool to push the piston back in....it actually twists back in unlike the front which pushes back in...

or you can use needle nose pliers but it'll take a little bit more time

You can get a small cube shaped tool with pins that goes on the end of a wrench.

As long as the caliper is in good shape this or a needle nose works fine. However, most rear calipers are pretty rusty and tight and you may have trouble.

I used needle nose. Tool about 10 minutes of turning on each side, thats because my rears were pretty low.

i replaced my whole rear brake setup and I never had to do anything like this, or use any special tools.

but... that could be because i used new calipers, i dunno.

If you find that one of them or both will not turn in .... buy NEW, cause if you get one used, chances are it's in similar shap (or could be soon) to your old one.
