parking brake light and trunk

A little while ago the parking brake light wouldn't come off even when the brake level was all the way down. This would fix itself after several minutes of driving, but now it just never turns off.

Also, the trunk no longer opens when I'm using the remote or the trunk button inside the car. It will, however, open if I used the key.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with these two items? It never really bothered me before, but I'm wanting to replace my car with something newer and I might have to put the maxima on the market.

Your brake fluid is low.

Or your trunk is locked out, hence why it only opens with the key. There is a "switch" in the locking mechanism where it latches that can be moved up and down to lock out the trunk. Check there.

Awesome! That has isolated the area that needs work. I think a screw might not be tight enough or something.

I'll try out the brake fluid later this evening. Thanks guys!

I would not add brake fluid unless you have a leak. The fluid "goes" nowhere so if it is low it means your brakes are worn and the fluid is in the calipers behind the pistons which are extended to apply the worn out pads. Replace the brakes and the pistons will be depressed back into the calipers refilling your brake reservoir
