Got to the track today after putting on my Cattman y-pipe this morning.
Quickest ET: 14.655 @ 94.54 (2.223)
Fastest Trap: 14.717 @ 94.83 (2.321)
My most impressive run however was a 14.675 @ 94.75, which was with a
2.315 60' . If I can get that 60' down to a 2.20 like before, I'd say I'm good for a 14.50. If by some miracle I can manage a 2.10 like VeeTec or 2.09 like theBlue, I'd say 14.4s, maybe 14.3s are in the realm of possibility. For those of you that don't remember, my previous best was a 14.872 @ 92.68 stock. Suffice it to say, I love this Y-Pipe. Thanks Josh.
Simon (Max7), Brian (BriGuyMax), and Jason (sorry cant remember his name on the .org) were witness to the runs, and they are all on video, except the last one of the night, which was my slowest anyhow so it doesn't matter. Video will be up whenever Brian figures out how to upload them, timeslips will be scanned when I get the urge to scan it.

WOW!
Get a CAI man! I'd love to see what you can do with that!
Looks like you have potential for "theblue"-like times, it would be interesting to see you run with a full exhaust + CAI

I've been trying to work on mine, but If I drop above 2500RPMS, I just spin. So I have to drop low, and my 60ft suck because of it. I'm finishing decent I'm at 89mph on a 15.7 So I know if I can get the Launch down... I'm going to be LOW LOW 15's, plus I'm riding on MOMO's which deserves at least a .5sec handicap...he he he.
I've tried everything. Lower PSI, I just spin. Both tires...Am I dropping the cluth too fast? can you do that?

People have suggested going back to my stock rims for the strip, but that would require me to launch at a lower RPM or I'll really slip(less weight). Or am I thinking about this wrong?
So if I launch at 2k, then I'm pretty far off the acceleration curve.

So if I spin with 52lbs on each tire (MOMO) at 2.4k. I'll spin harder at 2.4K with the lighter tires and rims...right? and if I lower my rpms I'll bog. So do you just ride the clutch till your at 4k? Launch at 4k and ride it?

I can't believe that you can spin at a 2400 launch on your 17 inch Momos...what tire pressure were you running (should be around 19-20 psi). Slipping the clutch is one way to launch..if you do it right...you'll get better 60 ft times that you ever will just dropping it. It's also not as harsh on your driveline...just wears your clutch...but a clutch is MUCH cheaper than a tranny rebuild...belive me...I've had BOTH done on my maxima
Yeah I did last night. That is a clean drop though, just bammma... it's squeelin. Well now that I think about it... when you launch... you are reved up to 2400 then the light turns and you gas it. It might be higher depending on my eye foot coordination... but generally I try to drop between 2400-2800...with 20-25lbs of air. Last night my tires slipped a little more (I think it was the tire compound) Junk Kumho tires. Even with the Potenza re730's they would bark and roll around 2400+ RPMs. Mayne heat the tires up more? I read on a site that it is bad to do on street tires... Wrong compound..blah blah blah..

A 14.87 stock is very impressive as well. This is a gen4 Maxima, running 14.9's stock?

I'm very impressed. Previous fastest stock gen4 time I'd taken seriously was a 15.1 or so...
SLC I30t, from what I hear, there's more sticky tires out there than the RE730's; the current hot tire for auto-x is the Falken Azensi (sp?), although I think the RE730 is very good for those of us who can't afford Pirelli P-Zero's or a separate set of race tires and wheels!
congrats on the runs, its good to see there are other supermaxes around... next time drop your front tires to 19psi and try launching at 2400... you may just improve your times a little

I'm sure it will, but if one had invested the same amount of money into a manual, it would still be faster. I hate to say it (owning an automatic), but 5spds are always faster (withing competing cars). By the way, does anyone know Don's 1/4 mi. times and 0-60s?

And yes, that was his best time to date. He hasn't come out and said exactly what is in that thing but I think it's alot less than we think. I'd pin a .5 sec improvement on the VB in conjunction with the upgraded Torque converter they're beta testing.
At a certain point it takes almost super-human timing to nail a perfect 1/4 mile, hence a lot of the fastest drag racers are custom-auto's, but there is no risk of that happening in a maxima, is there?

and he tried launching at 2400 and bogged like hell.....so the 3000 drop worked MUCH better for him.

Good job Neal, You guys got me hooked on the track. I might go this weekend if the weather is good. Hey I made it to my party without a problem. Just 15 minutes late to pick my friends up. They were very understanding when I showed my timeslips. Bottom line, I had fun with you guys and hopefuly we can meet up soon for some good times. Brian have you hear anything about your trany?
Get Drag Radials.....
if you want to lower your 60 ft times. I have the Nitto Drag radials for autoxing. I was able to drop the times to 2.18 on my car from 2.35 sec the same night. I launch it at 3500 rpm slip with a little wheelspin so maybe I can launch it higher. If you are going to run smaller stock wheels, I was advised to get tires like 205-50-15 size. The shorter side wall will helps lower your gearing because the diameter is smaller than the standard 215-55-16 size (really helps 5-speeds). Plus you really don't loose any traction to the loss of 10mm in the tire width, unless you are running NOS or boost.

Sorry to hear that, I might go to the track this saturday, nothing for sure, but if I go are you guys interested? If it's cold, we won't have to worry about those damn bikes taking up quality track time. I am going to run with my stock rims this time, and less fuel in the tank. My friend might take his Passat, hey you think I get a copy of that tape? I can bring you a blank one if you can record it for me.

Later in the week if you guys are still planning on going, and if the weather looks good, I'm up for it. I'm surprised they will still be open, I had assumed last weekend was it until next spring.
I just called Byron Dragway and the track is open this weekend for the last time this year. I will go up there around 10:00am to get more runs in. If you guys are in let me know. Brian if you want you can tow your car there and after a few runs I will let you use my trany.
We just have to bring some tools. Hey with my tranny you would probably run mid 8 or possible a low 9. Better get some brakes.
