The hazard button and rear defrost button illuminate when the parking lights are on?

Today, I swapped the clock section of the dash in my friends car. The section comes out with the center vents, clock, rear defroster button, and hazard button. When it got dark out, I turned on the parking lights and immediately noticed that the hazard button and rear defroster button do not light up on the dash. I've never taken notice up until now. Does you rear defroster button and hazard button illuminate when you turn your parking lights/ headlights on or these buttons stay dark?

Below is a picture I got off the internet as a reference. I circled both buttons in question with red and yellow.

Thanks for your help.

everything in the center of the dash, along with the HUD and the window/door switches, light up on the 2nd and 3rd click on the light stalk. if something's not lighting up, you either have A) bulbs burnt out (highly unlikely that all of the bulbs burned out), B) a fuse blown, or C) wires crossed/not connected properly.

this may be a stupid question, but did the dash come from the same car? (i.e. same model year(s), if you drive a 95/96, the dash should be from a 95/96...97-99, 97-99)

The dash were both from a 99 Maxima. I'm actually looking at youtube videos right now of 4th gen Maximas interiors at night and both buttons are not lit up.

I'll check the wires tomorrow. However, when I press the rear defroster button, a orange round light lights up. When I press the hazard switch, the exterior hazard lights also turn on.

Can someone else confirm.

chances are you fried the bulbs... happened to me the first time I took my center console/dash off.. upon remounting, I also blew the bulbs for the digi climate control..

you gotta remember 1 thing.. these bulbs are old.. i mean they came with the car.. any hard jostle can screw up the filament..

I will look at the wiring again tomorrow. Are the bulbs hard to replace?

This is weird because both cars whose clock and vent area was swapped do not light up. I am pretty sure they were both working before the swap. Is there a wire that may be loose specifically related to the illumination of these two buttons? The clock works fine...

****oc_wicked-Thanks a bunch for the picture of your dash illuminated.

you have to basically take apart your rear def and hazard switch..
open them up and wrap the legs of the bulb in the reverse way of taking off the old one..

but at this point, some people will tell you to start doing the led mod instead..

oc_wicked and all-

Thanks again for all your help. I'm going to go outside and see what is up. I really hope there is a bad contact with the wiring so that I don't have to go out and buy bulbs and mess around with replacing them.

Update:

I ended going to RadioShack and buying new bulbs. Everything seems to be working in order. The Hazard switch was a pain to put back together.

Thanks again to Digitized, oc_wicked and everyone else for the insightful information you've all provided.
