ooops....

i didn't know where to post this so hopefully this is ok....

alright guys....before you start going off on me i'll just say it myself...i'm an idiot..i messed up and did something stupid...ok now that's over with! haha

i was installing my nitrous and needed to run the wires through the firewall so i could hook everything up. well stupid me went to drill a hole....and the next thing i knew there was brake fluid and fuel all over the garage. i thought it was an ok place to drill but obviously not.

so my questions being...what the heck to do? i'm going to go to nissan tomorrow and see if i can get new lines but the one brake line is a huge pain to get off because its way in the middle of the firewall. i'm guessing there is no "patching" involved with high pressure brake lines...but i just wanted to know if any one had any advice....and please be nice...haha...i normally don't do things this dumb.

also where do most of you run wires through the firewall?? i'm used to an old silverado and you can drill just about anywhere....is there a certain place i'm missing??

thanks in advance guys...

Kevin

Got any pics? Not as bad as you think. Re-route bk & N2O lines.

Get pics.

There's two ways to handle this...the proper way, getting new brake line (either bending it yourself or pre-bent) and new fuel injection hose (not fuel hose), or there's the half-assed way of trying to patch them both up.

well i called nissan this morning. and it looks like i can get both pre-bent.

i want to do it the right way so i'm going to order the whole line. but i can't order it till monday....sucks.... the problem is going to be getting to the brake line...its mounted on the firewall directly behind the eninge...and my car is from up north so its pretty rusty....how the heck do i get to it? it seems like the easiest way is to take the UIM off because i can't get a wrench on it......i might as well do a freakin 00vi swap while i'm at it...

i guess i still don't know the best way to get through the firewall...i've been searching and reading old posts and many of them had gromets and such...i sure didn't see any....every place i tried to drill was double walled...am i not drilling high enough? i don't want to drill into the dang brake booster...haha.

Open the hood and look at the brake booster - then 2-3 inches to your right of the edge of the booster (towards the outside of the car) - that's a great place for a hole or two. I used a Milwaukee Close Quarters drill ( Harbor Freight sells one cheaper) and a DeWalt step bit, and you can drill holes from under the dash no sweat. I have two nitrous lines and a half-dozen wires going through that area, which is single-thickness metal. Don't cheap on the drill bit.

Except it appears that OP is 5MT, so his clutch master cylinder will be there.

dang...everything has to be complicated! haha

my car is 30 mins from where i live at a friends house in a million pieces! so i can't look at it now. but would there still be room on either side of the brake booster even though the clutch master cylinder is on the right side??

Really? never saw one.... Hummm. Anyway, there is always Plan B. There is an opening from the cabin through the driver's door jamb, where lots of wires pass through into the door. You can run more wires through that opening and forward into the engine compartment by passing through the gap between the fender and the forward firewall. Open your driver's door, open the hood, shine a bright light down into the space between the fender well and the firewall, then go back to the open door and look up into the light! A coat hanger wire will let you snag wires and drag them into the engine compartment.

I've got several wires using that path. Of course my car is a '99 automatic, so no guarantees if you have that path, but it's easy to check.

thanks grey!

yeah i looked at that spot also. it would work...i was just trying to keep the wires through the firewall....but i've realized there aren't too many places obviously...haha....since i messed my fuel line and brake line up. i'm going to go to my friends house tonight and work on it for a little while.

i'm wondering if any of yall know the easiest way to get that freakin brake line off....do i need to take the upper intake manifold off to get more room? that's what it seems like i need to do.i'm not sure i'll have to look at it again... if so i might do an 00vi swap also...have any of you had to take this brake line off? its right in the middle of the firewall right below the freakin UIM....i couldn't get anything on it really...something has to come off to get to it....

i'll update and post pictures tonight.

The only place I can see that you'd simultaneously drill through both a brake line and a fuel line would be here:

However, it sounds like you're describing this area:

Which do you mean?

no...

i drilled under the steering shaft. i drilled into them almost right where they bend to go under the car..

i could find a good place higher up so i decided to drill down low...that obviously wasn't a good choice either! haha

Ah.

Why not just go through the grommet the main wiring harness uses through the firewall?

that's more on the passenger side right?

i think that's what i was looking at. i didn't really try to take the grommet off or anything but it looked a little difficult to get too. especially from the inside...

You can see it entering the firewall directly beneath the lower heater hose.

It's not too hard to get to from inside the car, but it's all by feel...you really can't see it. It's also a pain in the *** to get to from the engine bay without removing the UIM, but you can see how the 'easy' way turns out...

haha yeah it would be a pain! that's why i was considering an 00vi....because it appears that if i want to use the main wiring harness grommet and disconnecting the brake line i better just take off the UIM. dang it....more work. haha.

thanks pmohr for your help!

now if i can just find an 00vi setup...

I see those two lines run across the firewall, and disappear somewhere near the evap canister and brake booster.

Should be fun.

update

alright well tonight i had about two hours to work on it. my friend and i made some good progress.

i got the hood off, UIM off, both brake line and fuel injector line off.

it sucks though because in order to get that one peice brake line back in i need to drop the gas tank and get it on a lift. so now i have to get a friends truck and trailer and get it to a garage i worked at last summer...its about 1 hour and 30 mins away. haha....so its going slow but with the lift it should be too bad...

while the UIM is off anyone want to sell me an 00VI?

mines an auto so I drilled right into the spot where the clutch comes through. You can If you look up under your dash you will see what im talking about there is plenty of spots around there to drill. Then just look under the hood and you will figure it out from that.

mines a 5-spd so its a little more tight in there...

i guess i need to get a angle drill or something smaller in order to drill higher up on the firewall....

that or run it through the fender and drivers side door jam.

don't put anything though their first it looks like crap when you do and second theres to big of a chance of it getting crimped and the positive lead grounding itself on the car. I ended up using a dremel to make the hole with a small bit. You could always try a really long drill bit.
