Now im F@#$@# Axle Replacement turned bad

Ok now i had read about ppl's issues about the driver side axle and not being able to remove it well heres for all of you.
That bastard will eventually come out and heres why it doesnt want to.
Those stupid snap rings get offset or something cause thats what was holding it. I didnt car a bit about the axle or snap ring as i had bought brand new axles (no reman) Anyway When the axle came the snap ring didnt the axle pulled right through the snap ring mangling the tip of the axle splines (again no biggie cause new axles) but the snap ring fell inside the transmission AAAAHHHH WTF now i tried fishing with a flex magnet for hours wit no luck. theres no way up from the drain plug so have to go through the axle drive flange wever u call it TRANS so chances are slim to none.

IDK havent given up yet as i really dont want to pull the trans and split the case over a ****in snap ring. i cant even type this witout it seriously pissing me off lol. Well anyway to all who have probs wit drivers axle i cut an old leaf spring from a jeep wit a torch in u shape for good leverage and hit the other end with a sledge for about 2 hours b4 it finally gave, granted im 150lbs soaking wet so it was a chore to say the least especially on jack stands.

Any suggestions or theories??

Ive also read theres a magnet under the final drive gear for collecting bearing wear shavings?? any chance this will hold my snap ring for me lol??

There's a chance the trash magnet has caught the snap ring, but I wouldn't risk it. If you run that snap ring through a set of meshing gear teeth you're going to need to do a helluvalot more than open the case to fish it out...

It'll be alright, if that happens the case may very well open itself to release said circlip.

ummm .... in a word, screwed! This is why you don't go beating on things to get a job done right. I don't quite understand what the problem is that everyone is having with a simple procedure of removing an axle? Is it technique maybe? I do understand that things get "caught up" and sometimes some extra (beyond the normal amount) aggression is needed, but you must agree that using extra aggression will lead to these type problems. I'm sorry for the problems mate, but you will likely need to drop the tranny if you want it out. Or, as Pmohr said, you could let it go and it will open up on it's own.

HEY HEY HEY you dont understand huh??
well if you look im def not the only whos has this issue and at least i got it out lol.
I've pulled quite a few axles in my day even with c clips and never had an issue like that.
like i said whoever did the clutch job put the same axle back in n i have a feeling there the ones that werent careful slamming an axle in and mangling a c clip. Or shouldnt have come out that hard, replaced axles in gf's sentra same c clip deal came right out so there was more to it then just a lil pull and if your convinced otherwise read some of these other threads like the one about went to 3 mech's still cant remove axle it aint just me sonny boy it aint just me

I understand it's not just you .... not saying you did anything personally. It's just odd that so many people have issues with this. I guess what I am not clear on is why so many people have this issue. Seems to me that it comes down to how it's pulled that would make a difference. Maybe not, it could be something with the axles and nothing to do with who or how at all. Sorry for your trouble, if you need info on how to remove the trans ... or a list of tools, check out my write up in my sig.

TY for your sympathy lol...
I believe its the placement of the axle when its installed, im guessin even the ppl in here who cannot remove the original stock axles that either somewhere down the line they were pulled n replaced incorrectly or maybe even the from the factory the c clips are defective ?? IDK either but it all boils down to the damn c clip.

i know when i pulled it thats y i made a tool to pull str8 didnt matter.

If that does happen, it will become easy to find. Just bend over and pick it up off the ground among the pile of broken gears, case parts, and gear oil. If you weren't going very fast, the pile should be pretty consolidated.

Seriously, that's a sucky thing to deal with. I once had the plastic speedometer gear on my diff get torn apart, and the plastic parts forced me to need to drop the tranny and take out the diff. That was a lot of work for practically nothing.

honestly.......can you just say **** the clip??? it seems like that would eliminate all of these axle pulling problems, but could it cause more? i really dont see how once the inner spline is in the tranny and outer is tightened down in the hub the axle can come out... even at full lock, uncompressed suspension, ect...... can you just not use the c clip?

Give it a shot, then report back to us in ~10k miles when you've either stripped the splines on the axle, or dumped out all your trans fluid/gear oil.

I once put in an axle that didn't quite click. It went in 95% of the way. I got all the way around the block, but once I went onto my driveway apron with the wheels turned it popped right out. Or more specifically, it slid out far enough to dump a load of oil.

There is a razor blade inside the tranny of my B13. I dropped it though the speed sensor hole. Still runs!
