weird accel problem

Not sure how to describe this, but it started about a week ago. Sometimes when accelerating my car basically feels like it turns off for a split sec. RPM's drop, car stops accelerating, you can feel it as u kinda lunge forward from the sudden loss of acceleration, almost like im having fuel cut off. Its as if Im on the throttle, completely let off, then instantly get back on it again. Then it continues to accel normally again, sometimes does it again other times doesnt do it again for a while. It randomly does it at any throttle position. Sometimes it doesnt do it at all. It seems its more of a problem during/after rain. Last few days its been raining here and I've been noticing this problem more.

I've changed the fuel filter and spark plugs so far since I had to anyway, but problem still occurs.

My CEL went on the other day for P0440 (evap system crap) but I cant c how that is related. No other codes.

I couldn't really search since I didn't know how to put my problem into words to begin with... any ideas?

oh dude you're in luck ive had this plaguing problem before....it was like a couple bad coils....it was exactly like that...where im accelerating fine then for split second itll completely lose power and then kick back on...feel almost like jerking coz mine would do it twice...once on 2500rpm then 3000rpm...you might want to check coils..do a resistance test on them...does it idle funky?

ps im in illinois too! lombard, we can do swap coils just to check if you want...

The last time that happened to me,for some reason, my fuel filter was badly clogged and that somehow fixed it.Check your FF.

Sounds good, its hard to just test it as it does it at random times, it doesnt always happen and has happaned at various RPM ranges and throttle positions. I'll PM ya or somethin. If it is coils, I have an idea which it may be.

I JUST replaced the Fuel Filter... i doubt thats it... unless i installed it backwards?!? Fat part up... right?

Ah, so that pic in your sig actually does say something.

It looks like unintelligible text.

When a fault occurs more during rain, I suspect electrical systems, particularly high voltage areas so the suggestion to check coils is a good starting point.
Checking the primary resistance of a coil is useless, it tells you nothing.
Unless you have access to a HV insulation tester capable of generating 1000V test, I suggest taking the car to a garage with an engine analyser and take a look at the waveforms on the spark plugs. Any suspect insulation will show up as a reduced voltage peak.

Haha yeah the text on the left says 98NISSANMAXIMA
Even the text in the top left says things, its like car dimensions and stuff... not sure since my friend made the sig.

Anyway I guess I will start with coils.

I see manufacturer code: 9259 (no idea what that means)
Wheelbase, overall length, curb weight, cargo capacity, seating capacity, front headroom, front legroom, and at the bottom '3.0L V6 190HP'.

Basically a lot of useless information, IMO.

I will have a new sig soon anyway as this ones like 2 years old. As soon as my friend makes me a new sig.

car overheated recently? did you flush your radiator recently without waiting for the car to cool first? If so then maybe warped head? Can cause a lot of this surging you're describing.. feels a bit like misfires too. I hope for your sake its coils because theyre a bit cheaper. Coils are easy to check too

you know its probobly just vapor lock; see if your fuel cap is on properly, if it is then just get a new one. that should fix the problem.

i've had this problem before.... dont wory its a cheap quick fix

Car has had no problems with overheating at all.

hmm.. what makes sense is the code I have can be due to a faulty fuel cap... i wonder how correct you are. I guess no harm in replacing the fuel cap, i'll do that.

Has anybody seen the 1006 evap PCV code??

ordered new PCV looks easy enough $8 part

wondering if this code is caused from 1005 EGRC Solenoid??

both parts are on the way courtesy of pinnacle nissan so i guess we shall see.

i had code P0440 (0705) and it was tripping the CEL. i tried the gas cap thing but that is a load of bs.

it didnt affect performance AT ALL. it is purely an emissions thing.

i ended up spending 110 for a whole new cannister and it fixed the problem
