Auto-cross today....

No, I didn't run, but a near-stock 4th gen ran there, and he did some great times (non-pro times)! it was really cool! I talked to him a little bit, and he said he comes here occasionally, but his real car is a 300zxTT, so...hehe.... Anyway, I might bring my car out sometime, but it seems like it would be a lot better in a 5spd.
edit: the non-stock was suspension: sways, FSTB, and coilovers in the front.

5pd or auto doesn't really matter much, neither does power. It's more handling and the driver than anything else. When I run, I shift into second and stay there. No corner is slow enough for me to go down into first out of it. If you think it's fun, give it a try, doesn't matter what you drive. I actually saw a Honda Insight at an event once.

In MA, I do them through the BMWCAA. Around here the Miata and Porsche club also do them as well as the SCCA, which does them everywhere. You could start with their site, http://www.scca.org , or go to the regional forums on the org and ask. I'm sure there are a lot of us who do it

there are scca events, but smaller clubs are available...cheaper too...the fcscca is nice for central/southern CT residents.

Auto-Xing is FUN

I have been doing this for six years and I still have a great time. I do pretty well here in my Max. I've so far taken first in G-Stock with my club, TAMSCC, in the last two events. I usually race against MX-6s, Integras and V6 Camaros. I run the car completely stock, i.e. no FSTB and cone filter but with Nitto Drag Radials. The tires makes a world of difference and highly recommend them but Nitto now offers a road race tire that has a stiffer side wall. If you are just getting started these are great to learn on, cheap and they last a long time.

If you want to be a better driver and really learn how to drive your car to the limit, then try autoxing.

The BMW CCA welcomes everyone as spectators (free), the runs are $20/day if you are a member. Unfortunately, we're all done for the season, they start again in April, or there's ice racing in the winter. I don't know if any of the other clubs around still have events left.

That's the only thing that is cool about being in the South. We get to race year round, even when it rains.

250 mile roundtrip drive on my R compound race tires? I'm eating up too much of my tread on the highway!! I'll only race there when I trailor the Miata to the track. Til then, I'm sticking to my central and eastern PA SCCA regional races

Simple solution = more wheels and tires + money though
