i followed these directions when i did mine:

larger pictures that might help are here:

you have to have a breaker bar to put over your ratchet or you will not be able to break the starter bolts loose.

I had to replace mine in a parking lot last Sunday(7/6). Its not real hard...BUT I got a starter from a local parts place (Bosh), it looked the same but was a bit shorter. They said it was ok... Didn't engage the flyweel. Went to Autozone and checked their rebuilt, it used a Nissan case, this one worked.

Make sure the replacement is exactly like the original. Unless you want to change it 3 times....

my maxima 95 sometimes doesnt do a thing just a click click when i turn it on but after 2 or 3 turns it will start normally sometimes starts at the first turn,,......and also the starter does not make any weird noises . i have read that could be the starter so i am going to clean it following the instructions in here and see what happens.

I had the same problem. THe greasing helped, but it only lasted for about a month and then I was back to the random, unpredictable click-click-click of death. No problems since I replaced it.

Yes, you do...that 17mm bolt in the back is a real PITA.

I did mine last Thursday night in the parking lot of Papa Murphy's. Didn't need a breaker bar because I was pi$$ed.
