kinda dangerous wiper problem

okay so one rainy night i was driving home i rolled over a slight bump on the road going about 40ish...it was not a big bump or anything but all of a sudden my wipers stop working...so i was forced to drive in the rain with my squeegie and wiping my windshield while driving(not the smartest thing but i had to get home)....anyways i went and took a look...it wasnt a fuse so i opened up to look at wiper motors...turns out the rod that moves both motors came off..the connection is one of those ball and socket type things(like the shoulder joints on your body)...so i reconnected it and was a little stubborn...but i got it in...few weeks later i was driving and there was a slight drizzle and so i was using my wipers...all of a sudden there was a tiny bump and same thing happened and my wipers stopped..

does anyone know why this is? or anyone with this problem? kinda dangerous so maybe theres a remedy for this...thanks

I have no idea what your talking about.
Do you think you can take a picture of it. I think I may know what the problem is...

It could be the nut that connects the arm to the motor is loose? Maybe?

I think he is talking about the ball and socket joint that connects the wipers to the arm on the motor. if so they could be worn or broken so the safe solution would be to replace it. probably a dealer item...

I know exactly what your talking about, happened to me. You have to remove teh cowl and on the pass. side theres a bar that goes from the motor to the first wiper. The little plastic socket is cracked. Just get a pry bar and pop the arm off the motor. I believe the arm was $17 from the dealer. Use the prybar to pop it back on and your good to go.

i think it probably was slipping out(somehow) little by little already and that bump did it. Wat else cud it possibly be. Afterall, it was working and right after yu hit the bump it stops.

The dealer will rape you on that part your best bet is the junk yard route, IMO.

yeah, or try some home fix somehow to make the sucker not come out that easily again, but still work efficiently.

I doubt anyone here will ever recomend the dealer for anything except Air Bag sensors, maybe.

Your wiper incident gave us all a very good 4th gen used parts contact. *Fanaticrockford in notepad*

Nissan did a recall for these on their 200sx. Same problem with the nylon grommet on the ends of the metal arm. First I've heard of it on a Max but I guess not surprised.

I have a question about this. I had a similar problem where my cap wore out. I bought the replacement parts. Well I popped off the arm using a prybar, but I'll be damned if I can get the caps to clip back on. Anyone have any tricks or suggestions? I'm getting pretty frustrated here.
