HOW TO: Fix broken cupholder

My broken cup holder was really starting to annoy me so I found a solution to fix it, and its easy and cheap. I got these 2 things(cant recall the name) pictured below, and some industrial Loctite 465 superglue and thats it.

Here it is taken apart, we will only need the "pin" part.

If you look at the head of the pin from the point, you can see it is grooved. We want to sand a bit of that down so once glued it sits flush. Where the pins broke is where we want to glue the new pins in. Now let it dry and put it back in and your cup holder is once again stable.

Just asking, but how does somebody break a cupholder ?? They must have been climbing through thecar, and step on the cupholder (somehow) and break it.

Edit: What year for this cupholder ??

very common problem in 97-99 because of the weak design.

i'm suprised at you guys (pmohr and wiz) for needing any more info. you guys are better than that.

step 1: get something ressembling the pins that broke off
step 2: affix said piece to location where pins were

alternate solution: swap for 95-96 console.

I don't need more info, just pointing out the crap pictures. I still have my 95-96 style center console and cupholders

Its a common problem for the 97-99 pins to break off. Yes, you could swap but this is for those that dont want to, or just cant find one to swap for, and its an easy fix.

LOL. I don't need additional info. I'm pretty darn sure I could figure out how to fix a cupholder considering my mods.......

I'm just looking out for the n00bs and the guys that need to be spoonfed.

well this is helpful in my case....but now that we covered the "pin" portion, how about the two holes where each pin goes into on the actual center console?

You see, the thing is that one of my pins is broken along with both holes on the actual center console. so even if i replace both pins, there isnt any holes for it to snap back into place.

Any ideas? or do i need to replace the center console just for my cupholder??

you could repair the plastic with something like plastic repair, fg, anything that will fill the area and get hard then redrill the hole.

The two holes were a bit "loose" for me but still intact, I just put a little duct tape to "tighten" up the holes when the pin goes in. As in your case, try ^. How bad are the holes broken?
