Engine bay makeover

Still in the works but I had some parts lying around for some time now and decided to swap some of em out with my dirty old 99 parts. Considering I have neglected the under-hood aesthetics for some time now I figured I was due...

Old/new parts comparison:

Halfway there:

Finished, for now:

Yea, I'm in CT and bought the car in NY about 4 years ago...The guy who owned it had it steam cleaned and left the aluminum a mess....who knows what else he squirt on there. I'm gonna have to do the timing cover next.

Actually, I painted the "Nissan" part by hand with Testors model paint, waited for it to dry for a few days, then masked it off and painted the remainder of the cover with an old flat black krylon can and thats just the way it came out.
As for the manifold and valve cover, yes, I polished them myself. The manifold has over 60 hours invested into it, which is why I decided not to sell it. The valve cover only has about 15 hrs. into it.

You're right though. The bay is disgusting...All that crud n dirt stands out just as much as the shiny parts. I'm slowly gettin there.

wire wheel and clear your two little rad brackets on top they stick out like a sore thumb. someone needs to revive that "show pics of your engine bay" thread.

Lil by lil, by the time I'm done with everything, the valve cover will probably need a re-polishing.

Snypa....thats my super duper Home Depot hose cuz when I originally swapped out my intake, my dog was a tad hungry for my OEM hose. He chewed that thing up into about 4 pieces.

By the way, thanks for the comments everyone.

I love polishing. You should also do the timing chain cover.

Looking good! Though it look like you had a pretty burly oil leak from the valve cover prior to installing the polished one.

This way you could polish the entire inner and outer without any downtime, besides swapping the covers

I understand your concern, but I have another vehicle to my disposal. How much were you looking for them anyways?

Beautiful work on the polishing. Looks great!

I noticed your bolts for the plastic valve cover are rusty (just like mine were). They just updated the stock at my local Ace hardware. They now carry the correct bolt for the plastic valve cover in stainless steel.

I thought the same thing but then realized that it was all from the dipstick hitting the V.C. and causing the mess. Thanks though!

I finally sanded, primed, and painted the radiator brackets. Came out nice with a flat black then cleared. Will post pics soon. My next project is to find a way to make the injector harness look nicer without getting a crap plastic loom to slip over it. Any ideas guys? In my own opinion, the factory electrical tape looks so crappy & cheap. What can I use to make it more eye-appealing? Some sort of shrink tubing?
