the best ingredients to black/clear tails

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-99...mZ310071460577

does the outer clear look darker to anyone else?

i've decided it would be too weird to have the outer lens made of acrylic fluorescent covers and the inner stock...they don't look the same. the alternate fix is to do both inner and outer with the acrylic, but i think it kinda looks like it was definitely a DIY job

what i'm wanting to do is black over clear, that way my car is black and white. the only thing left that is not black or white is the tails. i'm thinking the best solution is to buy red/clears and niteshade the red. any alternate solutions???

The outer clear actually does look a lil bit darker. You should deffinetely buy Red/Clears and just Nightshade the red. The job will be quick and simple.

Those ebay lights don't look like they match. My suggestion? Just do it yourself so they match great.

Those are mine. Cost me a whopping 6 dollars to do it.

I purchased the same ones as you have shown. The picture makes it appear worse than it actually is. It matches up fairly well. You get tint film from bluebatmobile to make it look real nice. Thats what I am going to do.

Heck no, factory tails FTL!
Red/clears totally own factory. The factory setup is horrible. Factory should have come red/clear to begin with, for 95-99. Clean and simple.
The amber kills its looks.

ehh, you got a point...red/clear would have been cool from the factory. but when i think of non factory tails i think rice. like ill see 700whp supra with stock tails than see a 140hp civic with aftermarket tails. idk.. how about those red/clear tinted tails from ebay?

Got some of those, there the ones in the middle.

tyler5619,
The set of tails in the back row have precut vinyl on them. They arent from Blue Bat though, but pretty much the same type of deal.

Fitment was ok, finish is the same as OEM. The tint is made in the plastic, there not coated.
Red/clears dont look ricey at all to me. Everyone is so quick to use that word to bash everything. Many vehicles come with OEM red/clear tails. To its it a much nicer clean look having the outer adn inner lenses match up without having a random amber section.

i've dealt with a lot of tails and here is what i know:

1) there are new tails on ebay where the inside of the housing is chrome instead of silver and there is a bit of difference between the inners and outers because the reverse refractors are different from the turn signal (oem & am).

2) tinting your tails is pointless these days because of the tinted red/clears available on ebay. they are cheap and the tint is in the plastic, making it more durable than any diy method.

3) if you are going black/clear #2 does not apply. results will be best with a professional base coat/clear coat.

4) buying off ebay will always be risky. many sellers list parts they don't actually stock. also, every set of aftermarket tails i've ever recieved have come single boxed. many have been cracked.

5) tinted tails is ugly 9 times out of 10. this one is not at all fact but rather opinion. just cause flavas black/white themed max looks good with tinted tails doesn't mean your (general) stock white or tan max will look good too. alot more went into his build than some $100 tails.

i totally disagree with #5 because u cant say someones near stock car wont look good with these without knowing wat theme they are goin for. if they have black housing headlights and some black rims..then in my opinion go for it.u gotta start somewhere

i got the tails and they look very nice. the outer lenses fit perfect, but the trunk lens both have a gap where the 2 outer bolts hold it down. the inside edges are flush but where the two sides come together when trunk is closed there a gap. maybe i have to grind them down a little??

if you buy $100 tails before $1000s of dollars worth of wheels, paint, and carbon fiber parts chances are you're just dreaming.

i see tons of cars with black headlights, bumper lights, tinted tails, and maybe some black wheels or unpainted lip kit but i can count on 1 hand the number of people who have pulled of a black and cf/* two tone.

*disclaimer - imo

i think the black/clear look the best of all of them. sure they're not stock looking, but they're the best looking NON-RICE tails i have ever seen. especially the euro "wanna be" skyline tails. i know i drive a maxima, i'm not going to pretend otherwise lol

Uh, NO!

My tails are tinted (smoked) as well, but not in the traditional “DTM” sense. I added a slight twist to mine to be unique, and to make them more aesthetically pleasing IMO. (No I'm not telling my secret ) The LED's you see in the tails were made by KEVLO as well, the same as Flava’s.

(Looking at the left tailight only.....standard ebay red/clear on the outer…..KEVLO LED tails with smoked turn signals on the inner.
