My car wont start and I am stuck in parking lot

Any ideas guys? The car is getting spark but is not getting fuel. The battery is fine, less than a year old and the radio, climate control, etc all works.

Who thinks it is the immobilizer that needs to be reprogrammed?

Thanks for the help,
Matt

Is it cold where you are ?? The fuel pump could have just failed.

maybe time for a new fuel pump or if you're lucky just the fuse. i doubt that it's the immobiliser.

No I am pretty sure the fuel pump didn't just kick because the car started fine at first, then died after 3 seconds. Only 99s have immobilizers where the chip in the key needs to be sensed for the car to start.

I will check to see if the fuel pump kicks on first tho.

The same thing happens to me sometimes. When I arm the car(Python alarm) then I disarm it, sometimes it starts, sometimes not.

A couple days ago I had to take the bus home. LOL

On the maxima (based on ecu swapping experience anyways) It will start and run for about 3 seconds than die and not start again.

Is the security light out of the ordinary? I forget what it does when it's normal vs a problem with the immobilizer, something along the lines of flashing or not flashing or something, it's in the stickies though IIRC.

Yes I did notice the security light was ON when the key was in the ON position, something I never noticed before...

I just went back to the car and the fuel pump is ticking when you turn the key, so it is definitely not the fuel pump.

The security light stays on the whole time while trying to start the car, thus making me believe even further that it is the immobilizer system.

I'll keep you guys updated, it just sucks I have to get a tow to the dealership which is 1/4 mile from where the car is.

Yes, that means that it is definitely the immobilizer, go get it towed to the dealer so they can reprogram your keys so you can drive your car again.

I got the car towed today to the dealership. I called 3 local dealers and they all said they had to run a $110 dollar diagnostics test on the car before they can touch it, even though I CLEARLY stated exactly what they are need to do.

I am really frustrated right now and I really do wonder how the key can loose its signal without any warning.

wouldn't it have to be zapped with high voltage or something? it's not a vhs tape where you can f'it up with a magnet.

^^^ freaking nissan stealerships. Freaking 99 imobilizer!!

just out of curiousity im pretty ignorant when it comes to the key immobilzer but does anyone know the steps on reprogramming or even bypassing the imobilizer. im sure that the reprogram would require some expensive machinery but what about bypassing(95-98 ecu\w 95-98 ignition??)

You can just use an earlier ECU (and because of the 99's different pinouts, most likely earlier engine wiring harness). No need to change anything in the column. Of course, unless you like electrical you'd also need a cabin harness and engine bay harness (if you use a new engine control harness).

I'm actually doing this swap on a Maxima right now, '99 w/ VQ35 going to a '96 ECU and engine control harness. The electrical is...fun, to say the least.
