unless i shift manually it doesn't matter if i have the od on or off, it shifts around 6k rpms. i thought it was supposed to go to about 6400 and then shift.

Most automatics short shift. It is normal I wouldn't worry about it. The intake manifold and y pipe on stock US 4th gens chokes the engine's power so much in the upper RPM range anyway you aren't really loosing anything by it shifting early at 6K.

With the 4AT gear/FD ratio, with a 215/60/15, that's a WOT:
- 1->2: 6000
- 2->3: 5900
- 3->4: 5800
At the top end of those ranges above.
At the low end, it's:
- 1->2: 5300
- 2->3: 5500
- 3->4: 5500
Approximately.
tire size affect your speed. the tranny shifts at what it thinks is the right speed to shift at. if you had (theoretically) 1" tires on your car, you would reach "top speed" at a REAL speed of about 5mph lol
Wow! That is awesome, did you find that in the FSM pmohr?
Just curious, what is the difference between "comfort" and "auto power?"
Also, this is somewhat related, but I heard a rumor somewhere that the 97-99 automatic has slightly different programming and will kick down more aggressively into first gear than the 95-96, does anyone know if that is true?
I know the 97-99 at least does have quite the agressive kick down. My friend has a 97 automatic, and even if hes going over 35mph, it will slam into first gear if he floors it, unlike most automatics that wont kick down over 30.

i'm just wondering if it's normal because i'd like it to hit close to redline without having to shift manualy.
