How come our Maximas don't come with oil and ammeter gauges? Don't get me wrong: I do like the instrument cluster layout (especially the white SE cluster), but you'd think with all this attention to engineering and performance for a car as "complete" as the Maxima is that they'd include these gauges in addition to a temperature gauge. Maybe for the next generation?

If you're going to use that logic, then why have a temp gauge, other than to tell you when to turn your heater on in the winter?

I'm planning getting an oil temp, oil pressure and voltmeter gauges next year. I wanna look cooooool.

Actually, I rather have gauges than Nissan yellow idiot lights.

Yeah, that's what i use, but the point i was trying to make was more for the overall performance-image of the car. Even my '72 Olds 442 came with an oil gauge, but i never really "need" it.

Guess that is a good reason then.

My theory is the more things in a car, the more things that can go wrong. I like our cluster, its simple with a nice big tach.

Well then you shouldn't have bought a Maxima! Sensors galore and power everything!

Sorry, but i'm not into the "mod" thing and if i want to go fast i'll take my 442 out for a spin rather than spend big money on getting a Max to break 14 seconds in the quarter.

Well my 87 maxima came with an oil psi and voltage gauge stock. IIRC the Z32s had an oil psi gauge.

Gauges are great. Some day when I get my hands on a digital camera, I'll post my dual-pod on the A-Pillar gauges. It contains Oil Pressure (good vital signs to monitor on occasion) and Volt (nothing is more exciting that watching the volt meter;-) Came out great. I'll also show my "Red" Water Temp/Gas and "Blue" Tach/Speedo needles. Looks a lot better than plain white on white.

gauges

Yeah, i think nissan cheaped out on maximas.
gauges are really useful, my pontiac 6000 had full analog instrumentation in addition to idiot lights, it looked so cool at night with orange backlites.

Wow, I thought mine came out good on the A-Pillar. That combo is sweet! It looks like you got the same Autometer gauges as I, except I didn't get the Oil Temp. I didn't want to drill into the oil pan. Who installed your gauges?

What does your oil pressure read while on the highway? Mine reads about 78 PSI at 3K RPMs. Curious if if is the same reading.

my local speed shop did it... they didn't know they would have to drill until they got the parts, but they did it for my anyway. saving my A pillar for when I need to monitor the NA stuff (which won't be for a while)

Yep.

You're my rooooole model. Heh heh heh.

I had those gauges in my old 81 VW Rabbit.

And when you posted up your setup the first time last year, I was like, "Cool ... I can have those gauges in my Max now!"

Ah the old Cabriolet. I had a '90 Cabriolet with those gauges. Ever since that car, I have been hooked on gauges!

How was the install for those 3 gauges? Mine was $150 for 2 A-Pillar gauges. About $95 for the parts.

Yeah Nissan got cheap after 88, I remember the 2ng gen. having those and alot more stuff on the dash like when a headlight burned out it would a light would come on etc. From 89 on there is just way less instrumentation.
