5th gen muffler, how much better?

I just bought one for (really) cheap but the pipe (connecting it to the B pipe) is cut short. So in order to get it installed, a piece of the old muffler has to be cut and welded to this one. I asked a mechanic if he'll do that for me but he said it's not worth it (implying that the gain will be minimal).
One one side, a lot of people on the forum advise the "upgrade", on the other side it's the mechanic who has nothing to lose if he does it for me (and yet he advised me not to do it).
Both mufflers are fairly new (less than a year old); if one of them would have been in a worse condition, it would have been a lot easier for me to decide
Other (fresh) mods on the car: headers, Y pipe, B pipe, intake spacers and a pseudo-mod, I disabled the swirl valve; some sort of CAI coming

I don't know what to believe/do, please help!

Put the 5th gen muffler on. It looks cool. Might give you some high-end beef. And you bought it to put on the car. If that mechanic doesn't want to do it-I'm sure some other mechanic will. A guy's got to eat, right?

I too have asked this question. Here's your answer:

Although that is an exerpt from the 2003 model year, it holds true for all 5th gens (00-03).

Just do it... That should be an easy job, don't let anyone charge you too much for that.
