Mevi Owners FYI

Hey I am in the process of doing a 3.5 swap since my 3.0 with 163,000 miles started to knock after years of racing and nitrous. Now for a last year or more I have hit it with 100shot maybe 30-40times and though the motor is old and just gave up but oh no not the mighty VQ.

So last night I pulled the mevi off cause I did not want to take a chance that he might get messed up during the swap and what do I find in my lower intake and heads but the butterfly flaps from the mevi. So you know where the rod and screws are, I took all the flaps out and it seems the rod that they turn on broke into peices two of the flaps still had the screws and part of the rod still attached thank god for locktitie but one did not and there was only a flap

the point of the story every year or so recheck your mevi or you can end up doing a 3.5 swap like me but the good thing is the nitrous did not take out the motor so I'll be spraying my azz off again real soon

Usually the screws fall out, but the whole rod broke? That's a new one.

I had 2 screws come out earlier, thankfully i was lucky and just happened to check it and they were sitting atop another butterfly valve and didnt fall in. But ya, the rod breaking is crazy. maybe the one valve was stuck and twisted on the rod everytime it opened.

True that. Thats why I'm going with an 00VI. It even looks better, but lacks the power of the MEVI. Oh well.

Never mind. The MEVI does look better. But do you get more power from the 00VI or MEVI?

One of my butterflies let go. The previous owner had the screws welded but apparently that wasnt enough. I didnt find part of the screw that broke. Oh well, at least my motor still runs fine.

I would just gut the mevi if I was you since you have your tied open anyway
it will be like having a 3.0 kinetic or ssim intake

I going to take a pic of the other 2 buterflys with the screws and part of the rod still attached and post them later

I was going to have my screws welded down but was told theres more of a risk of the tack welds vibrating loose than the screws coming out.

When I removed my MEVI to sell it a couple years back a couple of the flaps were IN THE INTAKE PORTS! Everyone should just weld them (or JB weld) them on from now on.

in my case this would not help cause the rod broke and the screws were still in the butterfly's

it was the rod peice's that took out the motor

Are screws becoming loose a common problem? I'm not gona MEVI it's something I have to take apart every 10k to check on. That would annoy the crap out of me.

just use locktite and you should be fine, I had mine on for 2 years and the screws did not come out even after the rod broke

but would still pop the cover off which is only like 10 bolts and check every year or so

I check mine every year or so. Never had any screws loosen. What I do is get a marker and mark the screws in relation to the plate so you can easly see if they have loosened or not.
