Hi everyone,
I am having an issue with the drivers side door speaker cutting out at random times in my 1996 Maxima. When it cuts out, it usually stays off for a while. This morning on the way to work it was on for only about 2 min then it was out for the remainder of the 5 mile ride. Wehn I got into the car this afternoon, it was working fine. Has there been a common issue with the speakers? I have the regular sound sound system, not Bose. The speakers are all stock, and the head unit was changed about two years ago for a high end Sony. No wires were spliced into, just a plug in harness.

Any ideas on how to track down this issue? How hard (and what are the steps) to removing the door panel to check the speaker wire? This is making me crazy.

Thanks,
Zack

pull the door panel off and check the wires. pop the cap out of the inside of the door cup (where u grab to close it) and remove the screw. Then remove the (three?) screws from the bottom of the door. Opop off the trim around the door handle, and pull the bottom of the door panel out and slide it up and off the door.

Takes bout 2 minutes

Ok I will try to check the speaker in the door. It is just so strange how it stopped working/or works at random times.

I had the same problem with my '97 non-bose system. For me the problem was in my head unit. I pulled the head unit and the speaker out and checked the wires for continuity while shaking them around, but wiring turned out fine. If I turned up the volume for a second the driver's side speaker would usually "pop" and come back on. Replacing the head unit solved the problem.

What I found while installing my head unit was that the pins in the "plug in connector" had actually fallen out (cheap overseas crap). took me and the crutchfield tech rep and hour of scratching our heads to figure it out.

Possible they might've come out.

Ok I will check that out as well. I have the OEM head unit, so I will plug that back in to see if the sepaker comes to life. It just sucks because it sometimes works.

Thanks,
Zack
