Check the operation of the cancel switch on the clutch pedal. Actually, there are two switches, one for ASCD cancel & one for safety start. The ASCD switch will be a normally closed version, meaning that it should only be open when released, as when depressing the pedal.

I just fixed my cruise on my 1995 Max for maybe two months ago but it was a VDO tempostat from 1994. It was sometimes working and mostly not, sometimes it would also shut of when driving. It was very annoying since I was mostly driving longer distances then. Anyway I called a place that repaired car gauges and cruise controllers (surprised there is such a company) and they said that they can with a 50 % probability fix it. A new one would have cost 600€ and they said it is usually just a cold solder joint.
They seemed to know what they wer talking about and they said it is very common in Nissan (gauges) and very common in VDO (cruise) so I removed the controll PCB from its aluminum box (was under the radio for me) and stripped of the old varnish with acetoen and a toothbrush. Had to apply many times but all came loose. Then I heated every joint and added some solder too. The cruise worked immediately perfectly!

I'm not sure if this helps you at all but I thought I would say it anyway

Just disconnect the switch, then use the ohmmeter to probe the terminals in the switch.

Normally closed should read zero ohms, then go to infinity when depressed.

Assuming you're referring to the one on the brake/clutch pedal?

Rather than the Nissan name, an actual description would be helpful.

Assuming you do mean that one, then
25300-62J0E, $26.14 each at Courtesy

FWIW there's no real reason to dig up a 9 month old thread just for a part number, could've posted in the newbie thread.

Did you Recently change any Light bulbs? i know in the 00-01 5th gens if you convert the Tails to LED bulbs. Cruise control doesnt work. Weird. but not all do it. its some. so if you did any mods. Try to undo it and see if cruise comes back.

I tested the switch with an ohm meter and it failed the continuity test. I should replace it before I move on to the rest of the diagnostic tests.

I had a similar problem on my 1995 Maxima SE. The light on the switch to turn on the cruise control would light up, but the light on the dashboard never came on. I took out the ASCD Clutch Relay and shorted the terminals 6 and 7 (like if the relay is activated) and the cruise control WORKED. The problem was the ASCD CANCEL SWITCH, activated by the clutch pedal. Replacing this switch is easy.

This makes sense. This switch opens as soon as one presses the clutch pedal (to disconnect the cruise control and prevent the engine from revving when it does not push the car anymore and the cruise control would try to drive it harder). The switch is activated every time we switch gears, so it gets constant use, much more than the switch on the break pedal. So after nearly 20 years of use, mine gave up!

I got the new switch from partsgeek.com for $22.41

5 year necro bump.

More often than not its just the rubber bumper that fell out of the pedal.
