interior illumination problem

so heres the deal, all my gauges and dash lights are all out. i checked the 7.5 int ill fuse. its fried. so i figure ill just swap in a fresh 7.5 and im good to go... right? wrong. i turn on my lights and i hear a sizzle. the new fuse is fried too. so i try putting a 10 in. it fries as well. basically +15 doesnt fry but the interior lights arent illuminating. ive already done a forum search and this one guy had the same problem i did but with the +15 hes doing fine. mine arent. so im just wondering wat else could be the problem? wires crossed? need to ground my wires? any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks!

i mean even if i dont figure it out, its not a huge deal. ive been driving without being able to see my gauges at night for a week now haha.

when you put the new fuse in does it automatically pop when you put your lights on??? or does it take a few? cause if its right away you might gave a hot wire touching ground now if it takes a while you might have a bad connection.

if you are instantly blowing fuses, you shouldnt put bigger ones in instead...i mean seriously, they are there for a reason. The fuse is designed to be the weakest part of the circuit so if it is overloaded, the fuse is the first to break but they are easy to change.

If your lights dont come on and the 15amp fuse didnt fry, that means you most likely have now fried your lights or wires instead of the fuse....seriously, what did you expect?

Have you done any wiring lately in the car?

mista- the new fuse pops as soon as i turn the lights on... so youre saying i have a hot wire touching ground? how do i remedy that?

black maxed- sorryyyy know next to nothing about electrical stuff. i was just poking around and experimenting >_< i suppose i shouldve read a bit more b4 sticking in a higher amp fuse =/ and no i havent done any wiring.

well i did change out the headlight bulbs not to long ago... theyre regular oem-replacement 45w/65w bulbs so i wouldnt think they would cause any probs but who knows.
my interior lights went out right after i put on high beams tho... wonder how that affected my interior lights... ive done it b4 with no probs...

you might have pulled a wire loose when you changed the headlights bulbs. look at that first. see if any of the wires are loose inside the connector or if any are broken.

Try disconecting your headlights at the headlight connectors. Then put in a new 7.5 Amp fuse and see if it blows. If it only blows with the headlights connected than you know the problem is in that area. If headlight are the problem try reconnecting the headlights one at atime and see what happens. Do not use a higher amp fuse.

Just like my physics teacher said(when i was in high school) know just enough to be dangerous. never put in a bigger fuse. its just like a old house fuse box, if a fuse keeps burning out you dont put in a bigger fuse thinking it will solve the problem, bc the wire covers will melt and the hot wire will touch the wood frame and burn down the house(this is what happened to my physics teachers frat house when his buddy got a good idea ). not flaming bc im sure we all did stupid stuff to our cars, i know i did. like every1 says just check connections.

Honestly bro, Just disconnect the batery and have a professional diagnose your problem. Don't drive the car and if you must have it towed to a shop. You possibly did more damage prodding around changing fuses, last thing you want is a well baked max (fire!)

Taillights and corner lights have a fuse under the hood...driver side fuse box...the long one. Your rear window switches probably are not lighting up as well. I believe all are on the same fuse. Had this problem but mine was do to a short in my climate control. Try disconnecting your climate control, pop in new fuses(correct size!!!) for your int. ill. and the fuse under the hood...Sorry but I don't remember the name for that one. Hope that works for you. Finding a short circuit is not fun. Be patient and take it one step at a time. It's ok to experiement with your car. But next time be sure to gain a little more knowledge about circuit before you go poking around. Thats one area that will turn around and bite you hard if you screw something up. Good luck!
