Fuel Leak Near Tank

Fuel Leak Near Tank
I have an intermittent fuel leak from the smaller line running parallel to the tank feed and it is leaking just over the bar that crosses the entire car between the wheels. For the most part, it is dry, but tonight I was running slow figure 8s in a parking lot trying to determine the chalking sound I was getting from the rear of the car when I turned right. I thought at first it was a cv axle, but, obviously from the back of the car, it cant be.

The idea is to be helpful, not ignorant and abrasive.
For anyone else, there is a metal portion of gas tank ventilation line that can corrode right thru just over the rear cross beam. It interfaces with rubber gas line hose for about 6" up to the tank so I cut out anything close to the rust area and replaced it with about 14" of new (1/2" inner radius) rubber gas hose.
The corrosion on the metal part was quite extensive and no doubt contributes to rust dust back wash into the fuel tank as this line picks up fuel with any sway and then feeds it back into the tank as things level out.
Might be a good idea to look at your's before it goes, too.

I guess you missed, in my previous post, the part about the 14"s of new hose and cutting out the rusted component. That did stop the leak as well as removing a source of rust dust and backwash that any 95-99 would be susceptible to.
The vent line coming out of the gas tank, parallel to the fill tube, is rubber hose and then plastic coated metal leading up into the intake housing. In between the hose and coated metal, just over the cross beam, is a metal piece that will rust out from the top down allowing dirt and moisture into your fuel system long before you find you have leak.
That wont happen again in my car.

Both ends of the hose are taunt fitted and clamped and the hose runs the same level, horizontal, course as the oem setup. It is a low traffic gas tank vent line.
You have a problem with 14" of gasoline rated hose replacing an 8" component of essentially the same caliber of hose and taking out 6" of coated pipe?
