98 se auto vs 96 se 5spd

obviously a manual will be slightly faster than an auto but how much so? i really like my 5spd but it has some problems im not willing to deal with when it comes to tuning. i found a good deal on a 98 se auto. i do liek the ocassional race. My 5spd beats most of the local asian halfassed tuners. whats the speed difference between a 5spd and auto? also what would it cost me to do a tranny swap if i had access to a garage and a trained mechanic for free?

Depending on the driver and tires the 5spd could be slower. The fastest stock 5spd is running like a 14.3. Fastest auto is maybe 14.7?? Anyway its about .5 sec. In real world thats not much. I ran 15.7 in a 96 auto and 15.2 in a 98 5 spd. Both stock.

A DIY tranny swap will probably run about $1000 unless you buy a parts car cheap. If youre having a mech do the labor forget about it.

My 98 5mt with more miles would have whooped my old 96GLE. dont do a swap unless you can do it your self and just stick with what you got

if you only like the occasional race id pick it up since its a good deal and forget the swap but if you want a 5spd then just look for another car the swap will give you to many problems money and labor wise

for the occasional race... these 4th gen's auto's are .. ok. why do you think so many are being swapped out for manual. I just hate having no control over my auto... i doubt you'd like the downgrade.... or upgrade...whatever.
