Im thinking of buying my co workers max..

So I have only had my 6th gen 06 SE for about a week now, and my coworker tells me this morning she is selling her 99 maxima for a 09. Her hubby wants to give her a anniversary/christmas gift early. I asked how much is she trying to let her GLE go for, she says probably 3000-3500.

Its black on black leather
GLE 127000 miles
fully loaded, power everything, sunroof, bose system, and her hubby put the 2000 maxima stock rims on it. She said only "issue" is the rotors need to be resurfaced, and its due for inspection next month.

I booked it out and clean retail its coming in almost 7gs, even private party its at 5200.

Is there any reason I shouldnt jump on this?

LOL...

I looked at every style maxima, every option maxima, and I "picked" a 99 Silver SE with black leather 5 speed. Money was not an issue. I wanted one that was stock, original owner, and was in descent shape. I could have gotten a 5.5 gen but then wouldnt have had any money to mod it and I would be stuck with a payment. I got the 4th gen because the aftermarket is insane and they are just plain sick looking. I say go for it. Only reason I wouldnt is because it is an auto...

Honestly, i would tell her to get it inspected first and then buy the car. You never know for some reason why the car won't pass inspection. And if it does, great. If it doesn't, well see what needs to be fixed first.

Even though she might not know that there is something wrong with the car, the engine might be going or the trans. Wheel bearings, tires, rotors, and all such needs money to be replaced. A 4th gen requires more attention now since its almost over a decade old for all 4th gens. So think about how much you will drive it, if you need it, or is it going to sit there and let it depreciate in value some more.

And its not a SUPER GREAT deal where you're dumb for not buying. She is basically selling it to you for the trade in value which is a good price. Fair condition is $3k, good is $3.8k, and excellent is $4.2k around NoVA.

99 is odd ball, coil issues, evap issues, too many O2 sensors, egr is problematic, you cant upgrade the ECU, i would stick with 97-98.

Coil issues? Yeah, it seems most have issues.
evap issues?
too many 02 sensors? O2 sim. takes care of that little problem.
egr is problematic?
Can't upgrade the EU? EMU takes care of that.

I love my '99 8-)
Outside temperature display makes it all worth it! LOL :Hide:

thanks for the feedback so far. I wouldnt wanna go higher than 2500 -3000 max. Its a auto, no spoiler, but heated seats etc.

they are the 2nd owners of the car, 1st owner had it for 45000 miles, they had it since. supposedly all maintainence all done at 1 dealer so thats a good thing.

use the 4th gen for the winter, store the 6th gen then sell in spring for a profit.

Lucky you guys, my 95-97 temp control teases me with the ambient function in the display but no button to activate it.

but the question is, why would u need a winter car?? is it because your car is heavily modded and you NEED another car for the winter? If not, then i do'nt see why ur 6th gen can't go through winter. If your afraid of messing up the 6th gen and trying to make it never see winter, great, but then you have to make sure that you're going to keep the 6th gen for a REALLY long time in order to be worth the cash to buy a 4th gen. In reality, it all comes down to you. If you have the cash, go for it. I personally like having multiple vehicles in case you need parts while working on another one.
