i've been searching but the answer i'm looking for is why do the halogen projectors seem to have a better light output? the cutoff seems very similar but the amount of light projected straight and downward looks... bigger.

or is that glare flom the halogen one?

Your halogen vs hid comparison pics show a bit of glare for both. (probably too close to wall in an enclosed garage)

For your wierd hid pattern....you may be able to fix that blotchy pattern w/a little bulb spacing.

With all that said... that step is ridiculously large. I hope your gonna aim them low.

those ain't my lights, just a pic i found and i think this is hid on the left and halogen on the right - both in a halogen projector though. that would explain the weird pattern but that's why i asked my q...why is there/what is the difference between hid and halogen projectors? seems they would be pretty much the same but from the pic it doesn't look like that.

The long of the short is that a halogen projector usually have narrower bowls thus not haveing as wide of a beam pattern. There are a few that take well to hids i.e valeo H7's halogens. To trully harness Xenon lighting at its best you will need a xenon projector.

Xenon != HID
you can get Xenons that are still regular bulbs.

you specified a Xenon projector, which AFAIK is not something specifically.

there is no Xenon projector, you either have HID projector or Halogen projectors. Unless you are calling the HID projector a Xenon projector.
