Exhaust Too Loud (silencers???)
i recently failed my inspection because my exhaust is "too loud". i have a budget ypipe + greddy sp2 catback. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yljpHmPvbE
i know the sp2 itself would pass, but with the aftermarket ypipe all that airflow causes the sp2 to be pretty damn loud. are there any solutions? perhaps buying a "silencer"? honestly i have no clue if they work and which one i would need to get...
i know removing the ypipe would help me pass but i rather not go that route.
please help
thanks

I had a Y-Pipe and stillen catback... never failed best thing to do that my buddy did with his Max is buy a cheap *** muffler... unbolt the SP2 muffler and slap a stocker on there for inspection... and keep the stock for when you need to do inspection.... OR FIND A INSPECTION STATION THAT ISNT SO STRICT... some of them are crazy

I have a y-pipe, hiflo cat, NO resonator and a custom Apex'i Dunk catbacks system. Lets just say my setup is pretty damn loud. So in order to avoid the popo and unwanted tickets I installed this:
http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_exh...=251&pageNum=1
Its not a direct fit for us maximas but with a couple minor mods, it works like a charm!
It allows me to activate the silencer from inside the cabin without having to pullover to install the silencer. There have been many occasions when I've been cruising along and out of nowhere, a popo peers its ugly head. I quickly pull up the valve and instant silence. Granted you don't want to be driving around for too long with this enabled. Its more of a quick fix to get you out of trouble!
But for emissions testing...best bet is to swap in OEM then swap out after the test.

hey everybody with the greddy sp2. do u guys have a problem with the b pipe hanging lower then it should be near the side of the car? because my b pipe hangs really low. if ur 6 feet away from my car u can see it.

yes. this is common problem for the max. either you live with it (like me) or theres some fixes that might work. i recall someone telling me before you tighten the bolts you place some blocks or anything to hold the bpipe in position. jack your car up and then slowly lower onto the block. once its in a good position, tighten the bolts. beware i have not done this, but i would imagine you would not want to rush this process. problem is because most catbacks installed are with the car raised way high and no real force holding the bpipe in correct position (poor fit for max to be honest with you)

mmm i would if i still had it. having a 13 yr old car in the ny/nj area, my exhaust parts were all rusted badly. i couldnt even sell it. just tossed it. yea i rather pay a garage $75 to do my inspection, given i passed emissions and all. failed for something silly
