VQpower.com - NWP VQ30DE Spacer Kit Review

During those HOT summers, don't you wish there was a solution to the decline in response and performance once that dreaded heat soak process has taken effect? Heat Soak occurs when heat is applied and not dissipated at an equal rate causing the material to flood with overwhelming tempature limits. That being said Aaron Kimball of NWP Engineering has thought of an easy solution to keep those intake temperatures at optimal levels. The use of Phenolic Laminate Material insulates the intake and throttle body components, reducing the rate of heat transfer from the heads to the intake manifolds, for cooler air which in turn restores optimal performance. Phenolic Laminates are usually compression molded and they have good strength and toughness, good arc resistance and other electrical properties, good resistance to solvents and high temperatures which makes this Spacer Kit a bargain. Today's product we are going to focus on is the VQ30DE Phenolic Thermal Intake Manifold Spacer Kit which is said to have an average Intake Manifold Temperature decrease of 43degrees.

Good job, Just one question... if i use these on my usim, when the intake manifold to the 00vi can i use these spacers for it?

We are currently working on adapting a spacer setup to run on a 00VI, currently the lower will match up exactly, however, the upper needs to be modified to fit. NWP is sourcing longer thread bolts to allow the spacer to be mounted on the upper manifold.

Hey GTR_rider, how long did it take you to do the install? It doesnt look that bad to do....

The installation instructions state 4-5 hours. But since gtr_rider has done several of these installations before, it probably took him less than that.

my only question is that if the motor needs to dissipate all that heat and then ur eliminating a lot of metal that helps draw it away.....

what happens to the additional temperatures that the engine block is now encountering

^ That's what the cooling system is for.

dissipating heat? theres a conflict of terms when referencing a intake manifold. My only question is there a thermal resistant spacer for the egr guide tube that bolts to the IM?

As nismology mentioned, heat is brought out of the engine by means of the radiator and cooling system. The cast aluminum intake manifolds do not help to draw heat away from the heads. That's what the cooling system does.

With these Thermal Intake Spacers, you will be preventing heat from transferring from the heads to the intake manifolds. This does not increase the temperatures of the heads at all. We tested this as well. The cooling system regulates head and block temperatures. With the spacers, you will reduce the actual intake manifold temps and in turn, reduce heat soak.

There is not an EGR thermal spacer. With all our testing, an insignificant amount of heat is transferred by means of the EGR tube. The little amount of heat we are talking did not constitute producing this piece which would have raised the price of the kit. We strictly concentrated on which spacers would provide the most gain in HP.

On the VQ30DE Maxima, we noticed an average temperature decrease of 43 degrees in the lower intake manifold and 40 degrees in the upper intake manifold.

And also, I'd like to point out that the temperature of the heads were exactly the same before and after the installation of spacers. It was 195 degrees before and it remained 195 degrees afterwards.
