Looking to change my Spark Plugs

I know this has been covered, but I personally did not see and part number listed has to which is better. So since I did not see a part number I was not 100% sure which plugs to get.

I know there are 2 kinds of NGK Platinum plugs. The Dealer stocks the cheaper one (copper) costing $11 a plug for a total of $66. I am trying to price shop and call up other auto stores for a possible better deal. I also see NGK Iridium Plugs on eBay.

I do NOT beat my Maxima and I don't plan on hooking it up. Hell I know the thing is slow after 4k or so. I tried it out the first time I got it. After 4k or so I realized it falls on it's face and is just not worth beating. I have a 240, Mr2 3rd gen swap and a zx10 for beating pleasure

I know with these motors that OE NGK is best. This is what I am looking for. I unfortunitly have not found the part number for the one I should get off this site. Therefor below is a list of NGK plugs with part numbers. Please let me know which one I should buy.

This Max is my DD. I drive it approx 90 miles a day back n forth from Post.
Thanks!

NGK:

Laser Platinum
PFR5G-11 2647

Copper BKR5E-11 6953

G-Power BKR5EGP 7090

Iridium IXIFR5E11 7994

Copper BKR5ES-11 2382

Iridium IX
BKR5EIX-11 5464

There is no need to gap them. If you want to save money, you can just buy the Copper BKR5E-11 at about $1.75 each, and set the gap to .044. No difference in performance, just a shorter change interval.

PS. If you want to fix that "falling on the face after 4k" problem, research the "00VI" mod on this site. That will take care of that and then some. However, This would most likely constitute "hooking up" the car, to which you are averse

Thanks Crime!! I appreciate it!!!!!!

I read and thought about doing it when I first got the Max. I even thought about the 3.5 swap but eh I don't know. After getting the Max just for a DD two years ago I researched this Forum and was suprised at what these things could do (3.0 and 3.5). Some people's Maxima's on here are EXTREMELY nice. I just don't know =). My Max isn't so cool looking. The body is straight and had a some what decent paint job when I got it. Eh I will have to post pics later today.

No problem. Given the other cars that you have, I understand where you're coming from; no real need to modify the max. Nothing at all wrong with having an unmodified, reliable DD

on Crime's advice.

OP, I think you mispoke when you said the dealer was trying to sell you coppers for $11. The $11 is for the Laser Platinum's.

Get the laser spark plugs from DaveB of Southpoint Nissan, otherwise, get the coppers from Autozone/Pepboys etc.

Yes it appears I was in fact wrong. =)

A little off topic but since I got a fast response here I figure I would add on to this post. I am going to pick up the NGK Copper Plat's BKR5E-11, a new PCV Valve and a Fuel Filter, since I know neither of these things were done. This should make it so I replaced virtually EVERY part that would have needed to be replaced for ones own piece of mine maintance. Well, except for the sloppy *** rear suspension that this Maixma has.

I read the 300zx fuel filter works better. I wouldn't mine getting that one for more piece of mine since I put a lot of miles on the Max and it seems to fit into place. My question tho is from what year do I order a 300zx Fuel Filter to put into the Max?

Thank you

The part number that you want for that is 16400-N7605JP

You can get it from nissan, or, you can go into any parts store and ask them for a '96 300zx fuel filter. The latter may be cheaper, but probably not by much. Even from the dealership, it should not cost more than $12-$15.

I just threw in some G-Power BKR5EGP's , which are - from what i understand - thin coated budget-version platinums. The first start up was magical, and they were something like 6 bucks for 2.
