Timing Chain Tensioner Gasket

I have a '95 Max.

I'm in the middle of replacing my WP and have my tensioner removed and plan to "rebuild" it. I bought the tensioner kit (see my other post) and the gasket for the new style tensioner. The question I have is, have you installed the new style gasket on the old tensioner? I lined up the gasket on the old tensioner and it will fit but the gasket will stick out on one edge. Even though it sticks out, I don't think the gasket will hit anything while installed inside. I'd hate to find out if the gasket hits something after installing it, then I'd have to remove it again. Risking me dropping something inside. Just want to know if someone installed it.

Thanks in advance.

can you trim it?

Is the gasket material the flexible composite sheet you get from the auto parts store, or is it a metal gasket? i.e., can you trim it? I put a new tensioner in my '97 SE last summer but didn't have the gasket (I even asked if there was one when I ordered it from an on-line Nissan/Infinity dealer in AZ). So, I just made one from 1/32" thick gasket sheet. No problems so far that I can tell.

The OEM gasket I bought is metal. Cutting would be the last option (if necessary) and one I'm trying to avoid because if I accidently bend the gasket it could get hosed. I suppose I could cut it but was hoping that someone with a '95 went through this already.

Thanks for the help.
