HELP: Sunroof Repair
HELP: Sunroof Repair
So winters around the corner and i think its finally time to attack this broken sunroof on my 97 SE. Back in July my sunroof crapped out and from what i can tell the track, specifically the hinge that lifts the glass into place broke on the passenger side dropping the passenger side of the glass below the roof in the "closed" position.
So far i have a replacement track which i purchased off a 97 parts car. However, when my sunroof crapped out I forced closed it so i could seal it up as much as possible and duct tape the gaps to make it water tight. I'm concerned that when i forced closed it I snapped one of the cables. I guess there is only one way to find out and take the whole thing apart. I just wish i knew if i have to get a repair kit before i take everything apart.
From what i'm reading the repair can be involved and would be helpful to have an extra person drop the roof track. I'm pretty sure i'll have to swap out the motor and cables into the new track. My problem is i street park in NYC and space is very limited. I am not too concerned about being able to fix it myself as i'm sure i can figure things out. I'm on the fence if i should spend the money to have someone do it for me or if i should try and tackle this myself. Thing is i hate to spend more money and get raped on labor fixing my "beater" especially now that times are rough. If anybody has any how-to's or write ups that can help i'd appreciate it. If its something i think i can tackle myself in a day i might try and take a day off to do it. Thanks!

That should help you out. You can easily do it in a day's time.
Good luck!

Did you ever do the repair? I did this weekend and it was pretty straight forward. You can take the sunroof glass out of the car through the top and it makes it easier (lighter) to get the track out of the car without any help.
This is not hard. It just takes time! Better to wait until it's warm if you can. The kits are affordable from the dealer (shouldn't be more than $50). Take your time. The hardest part is getting the liner out.
