All 4th Gens. Have Factory Alarm?

Simple question. I was under the impression that the factory alarm was a standard item across the board on all 4th gens. My '95 had it. My '98 doesn't have the security light below the gauges and I also can't seem to program any key fobs for it. What's the deal?

most that I have see have it, but I don't think it comes stock on some GXEs. Check if you have the button thing under the hood. also try to engage it by locking the doors with the key (roll the window down first) and after a couple of mins try to open the door, from the inside.

That sucks! I want to be able to use a key fob so bad I wonder if it's like half the other things on these cars where it's all there and just missing a component or two.

You would think by 1998 and on an SE model they'd have a factory alarm

Good idea. I should pick up something like that cheap around Christmas time when all the good sales are going on.

definately not all maxs come with factory alarm. i believe there is something mounted in the trunk behind the liner that has to do with it.

You think thats sad. A lot of the B15 sentras did not have NATS. We were trying to figure out how my freinds 02 Spec V was stolen, then we found out it didnt have NATS (Chipped key).

Not all do. Personally i think it might have been one of those US things. Every 4th gen ive seen has had an alarm, GXE/GLE/ES/SE.

Remote programing procedure:

Remove the remote control battery, press the lock button on the remote control, re-install the battery in the remote. Then get in the car close ALL doors and lock them. Insert and remove the ignition key and remove it 6 times WITHIN 10 seconds, this will erase any and all codes from the memory, the hazard lights should flash twice confirming this. Turn the key to the ACC position press the door look button on the remote controller one time, the hazards will flash twice again

TO ADD THE SECOND UNIT - at this point, manually (without the power switch) unlock the drivers door, then press the look button on the second, third and even 4th remote controller.

Now you should turn off the ignition and open the door. Close it and test
with you sitting inside the vehicle, so you can see if they work or not.
Otherwise, it will be a bad battery or remote.

I haven't read that all the way through yet, but it looks to me like with the right components I should be able to add this pretty easily if I have the right wiring. Surely you, the parts king, should have those items, Rockford I'll be sending you a PM.

I thought only some 4th gen GXE's didn't have it, but I guess that if you didn't get the Security & Convenience Package, it didnt come with a factory alarm.

with all of the components, it CAN be added.. however, I think it would be more convenient, (and possibly cheaper, depending on model) to just get an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry.. hell upgrade and get remote start! lol

My car is 98 GXE and has alarm. I think you should be able to add the parts you need and it will work, but the factory alarm is very simple one. It only goes off if someone opens your car without a key!

Looks like I've got a pretty stripped-out SE then. Which I'm ok with

DJ420, it looks like that's the route I'm going to go with. I have a buddy that works at a car audio place so I can get stuff fairly cheap and he'll even install it for me.

I believe you'll be happier going that route.. as Tosheto stated, the factory alarm in the 4th gen Maximas is relatively primitive compared to, say DEI, for example! More features too..

My '98 does not. It is BARE BONES for an SE. It's basically a GXE with the SE wheels, body color grill, and spoiler. That's about it. I think most GXE's have more options than this car does, though haha. I'm ok with it though, it's a 5-speed in a good color and that's all I can really ask for.

Interesting. You seem to buy "bargain basement" Maximas in general. Not a bad thing!

You can run your VIN at a local dealership and have them tell you.. or else you can go outside, pull your trunk trim out by the power antenna and see if there is a keyless control box over there..

I've been trying to program my fob, and I can't get it to work. I have the dash light, and go through the procedure, but never get the fob to work. The battery in the fob is new.

I did just find that the hood button was broken off and laying next to the battery. Would that cause it not to work?
