engine stumbles, but only at low rpms, idles perfectly, no stalling

First off, I googled the site for a while, read a ton of posts, some similar problems but nothing that's the same.

In 1st - 2nd gear (rarely 3rd), below about 2200 rpm, if I step on the gas it will stumble, like a misfire. Most noticeable in 1st. Never happens at higher rpms. My engine idles and starts perfectly, never stalls. Engine temp doesn't make a difference. 164K on the clock, and the plugs, air filter, and fuel filter were replaced 20K ago. I have the 0505 CEL problem, but never any other codes in last 15k. Car is completely stock. What should I check?

0505 is NOT a problem. this code means that there are NO CODES. Air filter and fuel filter may need to be replaced again. I think that they are both 15k change interval, especially the air filter (unless it's a K&N or something like that). I use only WIX or Purolator filters in my car (that's oil, fuel, and air).

Do you have a CAI and is there any moisture in there? Have you ever cleaned your MAF or intake?

Yeah that deff sounds like an intake problem. Take some flammable carb cleaner and spray that stuff on your intake and all the tubing around it and see if the engine revs up. That would show there is a leak and you might need to replace the tubing.

Make sure you don't have a vaccum leak. Don't spray carb cleaner all over. Make sure your MAF is plugged in all the way as well. You might try removing and cleaning the TB (new gasket is only a couple $$ at the Zone). Clean everything, check connections and vaccum leaks.

No CAI. I haven't cleaned either MAF or intake, so I'll try that. Will also clean throttle body, that hasn't been done either.

I cleaned the TB last night, and while getting to it I noticed that the vacuum line from the TB to the MAF was disconnected. Car definitely runs better, but still not 100%. I'll give it a few days to see if it improves with time.

Props to JtzMax for mentioning vacuum leaks twice in his post, that was right on the money.

Im tryin to figure this same issue out on my friends car...he has a 96 GLE with a Warm air intake and a 2.5" exhaust. it idles good, and above 2.5k RPMs it performs flawlessly. the issue is when the engine is warmed up and he punches it from a stop it just kinda stumbles n then takes off

the exception being when its cold he punches it and it takes off right then n there...any ideas?
