Got my Stillen lip kit today........

Well I got my stillen lip kit today, to my surprise the thing is made out of rubber . Over $500 for 4 piece of rubber, but anyways I got mine on Craig's list and only paid $350 and the guy even drove it to my house

My question is when I take my car to get painted is it best for the body shop to put the kit on then paint the car and kit together or paint the kit first before puting it on the car.

Very nice deal you got there. Most likely when you get your car painted its going to be in pieces because it would be a bit harder to get around some hard to reach spots. If you put it on stands you should get better results imo.

Here's what Stillen said from their website:

"Add an aggressive look to your car with STILLEN's urethane front lip spoiler. This spoiler fits the stock front fascia. Shipped ready for final prep and painting, we recommend using a qualified paint & body facility for installation and paint matching. This spoiler offers the same durability and long life typical of STILLEN Urethane and carries a limited lifetime warranty against cracking or breaking during normal use."

have them paint the kit off the car.

Hold on a second... are you painting your whole car?

I think they might sometimes do this thing where they mold the kit against the bumper, so there's less of a visible seam, before they paint the whole thing. I guess they use filler at the seam, so they have to paint it, which is why it's only done if the car is about to be painted.

I think this guy with a white maxima had it done a few months ago. It looked nice.

The only problem with molding a lip is that it is that when you hit something or something hits you, the damage will be much more severe. Instead of having a lip break, your bumper will take some damage as well.

Even if he's painting the whole car he should have it painted in pieces.

I would have them paint it and then install it. Thats probably how they will want to do it.

lol @ complaining about urethane. far superior to frp, fg, or cf in this application.

since you're doing a complete paint i would have as much as possible painted off the car.

Only have to worry about hitting things with it when the weather gets below freezing, other than that's it's the most durable body kit and best looking on a 4th gen max imo.

I'd put it on before you take it in and save yourself some money on labor.

You can always do what I did when I got my bumper, fender, and gas tank door painted. Give them the stuff, have them painted, take it home, and put it on yourself.

Well that way you might have 2 different shades of paint and it wont match with the rest of the car. It might be cheaper that way. Its good to blend the paint.
